Mahesh on Amrita “She is a fantastic, dedicated to her work and the most professional actress I have ever worked with. She’s there on dot and even if you ask for six or seven takes she is still enthusiastic and the best part about her is I haven’t seen her so far with her phone on the sets unlike other actresses who come with excess baggage. She suit’s our film perfectly, she is lovely, has one of the best faces in the Telugu industry.”

Wed 2 May 2007 Mahesh Babu doesn’t enmesh you in a web of words when he chooses to speak, but for the first time ever he throws caution to the winds and reveals his mind about the favourite people in his life and work and above all the bundle of joy - his son who’s changed his life completely. Mostly every success is pursued by a lull in an actor’s life with the next few films possibly turning out to be box office blunders and the adage holds good for Mahesh Babu too. Post Pokiri, the expectations of the audience, fans has obviously been high. He says, “Producer Ashwani Dutt’s input has been indisputable but Sainikudu has been a debacle right from the word go. We worked really very hard on a wrong story. After Pokiri that was not what my fans wanted to see. The excitement levels were low. The romance track especially between Trisha and the villain was wrong. My fans are very upset. I worked hard for both films - Pokiri and Sainikudu and I give my best for all my films. The film has failed but I haven’t as an actor. I have always been confident and I can say for sure that I’m capable of giving much more to the camera provided there is a good story and a director. There is a simple logic I’m beginning to understand now, and that is to do a bad film - it’s really difficult. ” Amidst the rumours of he being introduced to Hindi cinema through the remake of Pokiri he says, “That’s completely ruled out. I will always confine myself to telugu cinema and will never betray my fans for the love and the support they have given me and now I’m there for them. They are never content with my work, I need to do a lot more films to make them happy, they are my first priority.” On the sets of Athidhi, his current home production the actor is guided by director Surender Reddy. He says, “Earlier I used to get excited by my character in the film and would say okay but now there is a lot of thinking, discussions and I value all the second and third opinions of my future projects. Also it is completely untrue that I believe that grandiose sets are imperative for the success of my film. I believe in quality and standard and wouldn’t want to compromise on that aspect, I have on innumerable occasions compromised on my remuneration. So no one has a right to talk about it. I want the quality of the films to be there and that’s the reason I expect the producer to spend, even if you don’t give me money it’s no big deal. i don’t know why this complaint - that my films are going over budget, I’m actually sacrificing my money to be put in the film.” Talk about Amritha Rao, his co-star and the actor has many generous words for her. “She is a fantastic, dedicated to her work and the most professional actress I have ever worked with. She’s there on dot and even if you ask for six or seven takes she is still enthusiastic and the best part about her is I haven’t seen her so far with her phone on the sets unlike other actresses who come with excess baggage. She suit’s our film perfectly, she is lovely, has one of the best faces in the industry.” It takes one more subject to see him grin completely and that’s about Gautham. Mahesh says, “He is eight months old and we thought about this name even before he was born. He is at a stage when every morning he looks at you, stretches his arms and smiles all the time. He is beginning to respond to music. In the afternoon during lunch break, I go home and play with him and in the evenings I’m completely with him. It’s an amazing experience, a new phase in my life.” |
