Naidu gears up for US visa test
Hyderabad, June 6: Former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will be attending an interview at the United States consulate in Chennai like an ordinary person to get a visa. The TD supremo, who once joked with Bill Clinton on stage and exchanged notes with Bill Gates, will have to present his credentials before consulate officials and wait for their nod of approval.
His personal visa to United States had expired and he has filed a fresh application. The consulate has asked him to appear for a personal interview at 11 am on Thursday. Mr Naidu is planning to leave for the US on June 26 to take part in the annual celebrations of the Telugu Association of North America on July 4. He will also be attending some programmes to raise funds for his party. In the last several years, he was the high profile IT savvy chief minister of the State and did not have to visit the consulate or attend a personal interview. He was also the darling of the US media at that time.
The US embassies usually exempt chief ministers of States from personal interviews. As chief minister, Mr Naidu was also able to get exemption from personal interviews for several people including his peshi officers. Bue he has not sought such a favour this time.
