although that article is an interesting read and good rehash of the happenings circa 2002, it is like reading two different articles, first one on the adventure tales of osama bin laden and another one on the rising levels of anti-westernism in the muslim world, which i feel, are completely unrelated.
although i concede that iraq invasion is a big irrevocable mistake which cant be justified, the conclusion in the end that it is the policies of the non-islamic countries, mainly western countries, vis-a-vis terrorism that ignites the anti-westernism among the muslims is a nothing-new-rhetoric of musims and other anti-western headless chickens like communists. although it is a vicious circle of 'you kill us-we kill you-we hate you' scenario, IMO, 'tenets of islam' has every thing to do with this hatred of everything non-islamic, which of course muslims never agree.
worst that he gave the example of salman rushdie who lives in constant fear of impending death in the hands of fanatic muslims because of numerous fatwas issues against him in many countries, mainly by khomeini of iran. he is merely getting the protection in the western countries. |
