i used to support the 123 agreement earlier, http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/14/stories/2007091453 821300.htm http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/17/stories/2007091755 761100.htm http://www.hindu.com/2007/09/19/stories/2007091955 491300.htm earlier i used to think that our negotiators had done a great work and deal is more favourable to india than US. but after reading articles of brahma chellaney in hindu on nuclear deal, i feel that our negotiators have lost out to US deal makers. kapil sibal had addressed only some questions not so important and left out many. but i still feel that it is okay to proceed on deal as we can there is procedure in place incase we dont want to a party to the deal anymore. also as suggested by some experts, our government should make an internal law refraining us from returning the fuel in anycase. this law can offset the advantage of hyde act to US. |

i used to support the 123 agreement earlier, but on keenly following the latest developments here in US, i oppose it, but no one shall take it as a support to the communists... lets drop the nuclear deal and the we r free to do whatever we want as far as our foreign policy is concerned..... i wud like to mention here that this congress party has no foreign policy, its policy is jus to go by the wind, be it russia or be it america!!! One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors |

already there is a debate going on in india among the foreign policy experts circles on india's foreign policy on myanmar. a section of them feels that india is not doing any thing to pressurize junta in myanmar to free the pro-democracy leaders who are put in jails for more than 17 years. on top of it, our government have concluded business deals and construction deals with the junta. this approach is criticised by them and india being the largest democracy, they say that not pressurising the junta is nothing but hypocrisy. but our government didnt take any solid steps to reinstate the democracy there. now even if india changes its aproach on myanmar because of the internal pressure from these critics, after this US senators demand to link nuclear deal with india's policy on myanmar, communists and like usa hating parties may see this as bending backwards because of usa's pressure and abandoning our independent foreign policy. we already have number of precedents to guess that like 'vote against iran in iaea' etc. |
