fullhyd maatram always funny... Bangaaraaniki anukundaaa super gaa raaasadu.. Idhi kuda not bad... For the urban multiplex crowd, Tulasi is probably a tad too insipid to stomach, but if you hanker for some old-fashioned sentiment and violence, you will want to see it. How well it does will be a good litmus test of whether this kind of filmmaking still has the capacity to draw audiences.

Great andhra Rating: 3.25/5 Cast: Venkatesh, Nayantara, Sivaji, Jayaprakash Reddy, Ravi Babu, Raghubabu, Tanikella Bharani, Vijay Kumar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Master Athulith etc Story: Akula Shiva, Boyapati Sreenu Dialogues: Paruchuri Brothers Choreography: Raju Sundaram, Brunda Art: Ashok, Narayana Reddy Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh Camera: Bala Murugan Music: Devi Sri Prasad Producer: Daggubati Suresh Babu Screenplay-Direction: Boyapati Sreenivas Released On: 12th Oct 2007 Story: Vasundhara (Nayantara) is the fashion designer who lives along with her brother Harish (Sivaji) and hostel warden (Tanikella Bharani). Parvathaneni Tulasi (Venkatesh) is an engineer who happens to meet Vasundhara in a foreign country. They fall in love and get married. They are blessed with a kid. But they get separated due to some circumstances. Why? What are those circumstances? The film unfolds the flash back. Tulasi is the son of Dasaratha Ramayya (Vijay Kumar), ZP Chairman in a village. His rival is a factionist (Jayaprakasha Reddy). In a big tumult between Tulasi and the factionists, Tulasi shows his cruelty on them. Vasundhara hates that violent behavior in Tulasi. Hence she leaves him with an idea to safeguard her kid at least. But Tulasi keeps on trying to see his son (Master Athulith). Why he does that? The unfolding of the reason behind that culminates at the climax. Performances: Venkatesh's performance is really marvelous in the film. His dialogue delivery and ability to depict all expressions needs no explanation. Nayantara is sufficient in her role. Ramya Krishna appears as Doctor in guest role. Master Athulith's performance deserves great mention. He really did well in all the frames. Comedy by Ali, Raghu Babu and Narsing Yadav is just ok. Villainy by Subba Raju, Ravi Babu, Jaya Prakasha Reddy and Ashish Vidyrathi is routine. Action sequences are really hair rising. Dances are average. Music by Devi Sri is catchy at times. Especially the song 'Nenu Chuk Chuk Bandini ro..' for which Shriya acted as item girl got big response in theaters. Dialogues by Paruchuri brothers make good sense. The dialogue of Venkatesh on the meaning of marriage is really impressive. Hats off to Paruchuri brothers, for their ability in bringing out such sensible dialogue. The dialogue stands out to be highlight in entire film. Story part is assumed to be made with novelty but when it came to execution part, it became like any other action flick. Boyapati Sreenivas made the film as a minimum guarantee flick. Analysis: It's an attempt to target youth, families, masses and ladies at a time. But the blends cannot prove to be a right mix. If ladies like sentiment, they can't accept violence. If masses like violence they can't swallow sentiment. But on a whole the film proves to be a right commercial masala flick. It has got the ability to sustain audience in theatres except a few cigarette songs. First half of the film is made with humor and love track. Venkatesh's pranks with Nayantara sound interesting. Second half is filled with action episodes. Sentiment follows under current in the film. Mass audiences cracked jokes among themselves when sentiment on Venkatesh is rolling on screen. So, the dosage would have crossed the expectation to some extent. On a whole, the film proves to be a flick that can be watched once without expecting something unpredictable and novelty. http://www.greatandhra.com/ganews/viewnews.php?id= 3239&cat=&scat=12 Mods |

FullHyd It's hard not to go into a Venkatesh starrer and not expect the moon. There's always an unspoken hope that this one will be another Nuvvu Naaku Nachchaav or will at least have something of the better bits of Malliswari. More often than not, expectations are the undoing of the moviegoer, and unfortunately Tulasi is one of the "more often" cases than one of the "not" cases. Much of Tulasi happens in flashback, because of which right at the beginning of the movie, the story is disconcertingly half-completed. Tulasi (Venkatesh) moves into the same apartment complex that Vasundhara (Nayantara) lives in with her son Harsha (Atulit). Predictably enough, they were married before, and Harsha is actually Tulasi's son, though the kid doesn't know it. One flashback tale shows us how Tulasi bumps into Vasundhara at the airport. When we say bumps into, we mean bumps into. And just in case the audience doesn't get the point, the director takes great pains to show the 'bumping' 3 times and drills it into our thick skulls. Anyway, Tulasi sticks with Vasundhara’s group on their trip to Europe, thereby neatly allowing us the cheap thrill of calling him a bumper sticker. His "traditional values" (averting his eyes when Vasundhara is washing her feet) make her forget that just a few hours and one continent ago he was attempting a bump and grind with her in a crowded airport lounge. Love blossoms, wedding follows after mild complications. A second flashback reveals that despite his city slicker looks and flippant behaviour, Tulasi is from a "factionalist" Palnadu family. While he is bubbly and chirpy most of the time, any insult to his family or honor makes his blood boil and turns him into a goon-hacking automaton. On a visit to his village, Vasundhara finds out about her husband's extra-curricular human carpentry talents. She abhors violence, and when her brother becomes the victim of Tulasi's feuds, she throws in the towel and walks out of the marriage. To find out whether the couple will be reunited etc. etc., you will have to endure Tulasi. Venkatesh can do roles like this one in his sleep, and it seems like he actually did do Tulasi in his sleep. It's unfortunate that the director didn't make more use of Venkatesh’s fantastic sense of comic timing and smart dialogue delivery, and concentrated on the melodrama and scarcely credible action sequences. Refreshingly, the heroine in this movie actually has a meaningful part, and is not a mere ornament. Nayantara is more than decent as the young mother worried about her and her kid's future, and holds her own. Reminds one of Simran in the days when she started moving from being mere scenery into something more substantial. Atulit as the child is good, if you’re into insufferably cute and saccharine kids. In spite of that, he will probably be remembered for his emotive talents and such, and hopefully he it won't go to his head and he will develop into a fine young actor. Ashish Vidyarthi is rapidly turning into the Sphinx's Riddle of Telugu Cinema, and poses several rhetorical questions. Exactly what is it that keeps him doing the freakish villain roles that have become his staple? What happened to the guy in Drohkaal? How many zeroes are there in his Tollywood pay cheques? To be fair, if you have a certain macabre sense of humor, he does have his moments in Tulasi that bring forth an unintentional giggle instead of a horrified gasp. The action is totally over the top, and we mean this. When was the last time you saw a hero actually see a bullet as it leaves the muzzle, chase it, and bung himself in its path to save his son? It's that bad. The music is passable as is everything else. Tulasi is a case of the whole being less than the sum of the parts. Unnecessary quantities of melodrama and action, interspersed with slightly insufficient amounts of comedy and romance, is what you get, and as in most of these cases, the blame must lie squarely with the story and the direction. For the urban multiplex crowd, Tulasi is probably a tad too insipid to stomach, but if you hanker for some old-fashioned sentiment and violence, you will want to see it. How well it does will be a good litmus test of whether this kind of filmmaking still has the capacity to draw audiences. http://www.fullhyderabad.com/scripts/profiles.php3 ?section=Movies&name=Thulasi&ID=4984 Mods |

IB Tulasi (Venkatesh) is a lovable guy who falls in love with a co-tourist Vasundhara (Nayana Tara) in Europe. They like each other and get married. Then it is revealed that Tulasi comes from a family of factionists and he has an irresistible violent streak running in his blood. They bear a child and then Vasundhara keeps Tulasi away for his violent ways. The rest of the story is all about how he reasons out with his wife to get his family back. Artists Performance Venkatesh: Venkatesh is pretty good as Tulasi. His comedy timing and accent in the scene in which he imitates Jhansi is hilarious. The way he bites his tongue when is he is angry shows the typical angry expression of Palnadu area. He is very good in action sequences in the second half. However, it is appalling to see such a sensible actor like Venkatesh accepting to act in a climax scene that appears so inhumane (kidnapping a dieing kid). Others: Nayana Tara did a meaty role where she has scope to display both glamour and histrionics. The kid Atulit is pretty cute. Sivaji did the role of heroine’s brother. Shriya did an item song. Jhansi’s comedy as Kokapeta aunty is good. There are eight villains in the film, but the screen time spared for them is minimal. Asish Vidyardhi succeeded in portraying cruelty. Ramya Krishna did a doctor role. Ali’s comedy is bland. Raghu Babu did a typical comedy sidekick role. Technical Departments: Story - screenplay - direction: The basic story of the film is clever amalgamation of various films like DDLJ (couples falling in love during transit trip in Europe), Daddy (wife separating from husband due to his weakness (kindness to friend in daddy and violence in Tulasi)), Anthahpuram (wife does not knowing about the violent past of husband), Yuvaraju (father - son relationship) etc. The director could not establish love feelings in the story, but succeeded in creating high voltage action drama in the flashback episode shot in Seema. The director chose to show the softer side in the first half and violent angle in the second half. Other departments: The songs of the film are good though each one of them is a rehashed version of Devi Sri Prasad’s own music. Background score in action sequences (‘we will rock you’ bgm coupled with Chatrapati and Stalin kind of hero background music) is good. Cinematography is alright. Dialogues are adequate. The are couple of scenes in this film that appear abrupt due to inadequate editing. Action sequences are well choreographed. The makers tried to blast various vehicles in flashback episode to excite masses. TulasiAnalysis: First half of the film is mediocre. Second half is better. But the climax of the film is inhumane. The plus points of the film are Venkatesh and the seema flashback episode. The negative points of the film are excessive violence in second half and inconsistency in the story narration. The commercial success of the film depends on how masses embrace this film. 3/5 http://www.idlebrain.com/movie/archive/mr-tulasi.h tml Mods |

Telugu cinema What's it about? Tulasi Ram (Venkatesh) is an architect. He comes from Palnadu - the region of faction feuds. He leads life far from the factionism and he falls in love with Vasundhara (Nayanatara), a fashion designer. Both of them get married by the blessings of parents. After their marriage, an incident provokes Tulasi to take up violence that sets problems in his marital life. Vasundhara misunderstands him and they separate. The rest of the film is about how they reconcile. Analysis Like all Venkatesh's films, Tulasi too relies more on sentiment and romance. Apart from them, we have good action sequences in this movie. In Tulasi, the wife-husband romance and child sentiment drama is well mixed with the faction drama. Director Boyapati Srinivas has handled it perfectly. Despite familiar storyline and scenes, 3/4th of the film is neat and interesting. Action sequences and right balance of sentiment works. Akula Shiva who has written Venkatesh's blockbuster, Lakshmi, has given the basic script for this film. So we can easily spot the similar situations here too. Yet, the director puts all the commercial ingredients at regular intervals and makes the film interesting. Venkatesh makes you cry in some sentiment scenes like in all movies. That's enough for success for his movies. On the flip side, it has weak second half. In the last twenty minutes, 'excess drama' kills the pace and makes you get sulking. There are also some glitches too. What makes stand out in the film are action sequences.. 1. Venkatesh taking up sword to teach a lesson to the baddies who insulted his father during the Z.P elections is awesome. It is best action episode we have seen in the recent times. 2. Hospital scene where Venkatesh tells the secret about the child. It is sentiment scene that makes you moist-eyed. 3. Pre-interval action episode is also good. Performances Venkatesh cakewalks through the role of Tulasi. He makes you cry in the child sentiment scenes. He portrays various moods in the movie - both violent side and romantic side effortlessly. Nayanatara looks dignified and best suits for such roles. The child artiste Atulith is so cute. His charm is infectious. And he kid has given good performance. Ramya and Shivaji in special roles have done neat job. Of rest of the cast, it is Jhansi as Kokapeta Aunty steals the show and brings laughter. Her Hyderabad accent and Venky giving repartee in the same way is hilarious. There are many villains in the movie but only Ashish Vidyardhi, Subbaraju, Shravan make impact. Technically, Ram-Lakshman work stands out. Devi Sri Prasad gives two lilting numbers - "Vennelinta Vediga.." and "Nee Kallathoti..". The song picturisation of "Vennelinta Vediga.." is creative although the shades of Nuvvu Nenu Prema. Director Boyapati Srinivas shines in delivering action scenes. His direction is neat but he should have taken care in the second half. Cinematography by Balamurugan is cool. Flip Side 1. Too Many villains. Viewers confuse as to who the main villain is. 2. Routine drama 3. Last twenty minutes dragged on. Bottom-line! Tulasi is good mix of family sentiment drama with high dose of sentiment. Critically speaking it is average movie but for common audiences it works. Second hal Tulasi is typical Venkatesh film despite that the right balance of action and family drama like in Jayam Manadera makes the film enjoyable fare. Especially in B and C centers, it will make good profits. Venkatesh makes you cry in some sentiment scenes and he also shines in action episodes. That works to the advantage of the film. On the whole the film is paisa vasool. Sources or Shades of other films 1. The romantic scenes on Venky and Nayanatara in foriegn is similar to that of Jayam Manadera. 2. The child sentiment and the clash between Venky and Nayan has shades of Chiranjeevi's Daddy. http://www.telugucinema.com/c/publish/moviereviews /tulasi_moviereview.php Mods |
