No denying Roger's achievement and it doesnt matter if someone like me even dares to do that.
Rafa's achievements came early than expected but he can build and make it to the reputation that he has been being receiving. Its just that he has to win one non clay slam and follows the rest.
In this thread someone was telling about Hingis's achievement and the only reason she had to leave the game because of the stupid shoe company and her injuries which she didnt even deserve and were out of hands. since there is no if and else things in reality we cant say much about Martina but the same is not true with RAfa until this point.
Rafa is provinig a point here and lets see.. |

minneapolis mama, even i would like to see federer losing the matches, particularly in grandslams as i dont want sampras' record of highest # of grandslams to be broken. watching tennis has become a big bore to me because of the monopoly,amazing consistency and perfection of federer.
but i dont concur with when you say that because 'nadal has achieved something greater than federer at 19' i have a reason to belittle federer's achievements. federer is a perfect player and no player of any game or sport can achieve the consistency of federer. |

Just believe in that he is the GOD or whatever. There is no game that can be dictated by one and its a cycle and time for the emergence of some one to take over from Roger.
He just raised his game when the previous generation players were either in the last hurdle of their legacy or hardly any new talent was coming along.

Try to come with some facts than to just counter my posts. Sampras was very much in the winning of slams when courier was at his peak. During that time Pete had 3 slams when courier was winning non wimbledon slams. |

in your list Jim courier faded much before Sampi came to form, stich was one tournament wonder, edberg and becker were already veterans, philippousis i have never seen him playing good tennis except a few matches in wimbledon, mostly out due to injuries.
only goran and pat can be considered but where do they stand compared to the amount of energy and consistency the current crop of players are showing. check their records with the current list i gave you.
Hewit peaked during the beginning of fedex reign and not during sampis. still he could beat sampi in the finals of a grandslam and still lost to fedex.

I dont have to seemingly express my views because the reason for initiation if this thread is to show my happiness of watching Federer's loosing streak coming out of utter hatred towards him. Been folowing this game for 17yrs and doesn't need to know more than that to say who is better or who is the best.
At 19 Roger just won against Pete which made everyone to take a glance at him but what Rafa achieved made everyone bow to him. The comparision didnt stop there as Rafa had already won 3 slams even before started wining any slams.
I can definitely say in the era of Pete and Andre there were far better competent players than the current set of pool of players.
The list can go on and on like

Most of them have slams its not because Pete or Andre let them win its just that they forced their way to win claiming ther r the best for certain surfaces unlike the current players. Most of these players r at their prime when they were playing.
Coming to Rafa its his turn to change the wheel in his favour from now onwards where he got adjusted to all the surfaces now. Djokovic has hardly played and just started to believe that he can over take Roger. |

you seem to be a big hater of roger from ur posts, for how long have you been following the game is it 10 yrs?? or 15 yrs??. how much do you know about the game??
do you remember the year when Roger @19 defeated Sampras in the pre quarters and that was the end of sampras in wimbledon. so what if he did not win any during that time and how does it matter. he is winning every thing in the last 4 years. what did Rafa do something that is so good for his age, he just excelled at Roland garros and what are his credentials at the US and australian open where he doesnt figure beyond the 4th round. what kind of opposition are you talking of when you compare sampras and fedex. during that era sampi has no compettition except in Agassi and here we do have roddicks, rafas, safin, djokovic, nalabandian and so on. the compettion is more these days than during the times of sampi.

This is a total imagination leading very much to debatable assumption. This can only be acknowledged by hard core fans of Roger but not everyone who have been following the game for a while.

This is very much untrue. Federer is very good and known for winning when it matters the most..but he could not do it at the French open and the way you play there is from the base line and top spin game. He belives in himslef alot and thats the reason atleast he was there at the las hurdle for couple of years. otherwise he doesnt have that particular dimension in him that suites clay.
What happened to the same Roger when he started playing in his teens with the opponents of Andre, Pete's calibre. He couldnt do any upsets like the likes of Rafa who announced his emergence with a bang when he as 19.
Roger was just prevailing until 21 when he saw the opportunity of the previous generation top players in their last phase and grabbed with a huge hold and luckily for him it worked as the current generation has very inconsistent pool of players.
I feel like its not the top 100 who r very talented but its the top 10 who r very inconsistent. There r players like Feliciano Lopez who on a given day can trouble Roger and he knows that. But these players not being consistent and going down to his dominance.
I am sure believer that he once starts loosing there's no stopping to that and he has to find ways from all sorts to learn winning again which i am marking in 2008. |

there used to be good talent in top 10 players before but now top 100 guys can play like the guys in top 10.
fabrice santoro winning against top players is not a joke, he is very good. very unconventional but good. |

This absolutely doesnt make sense to make me.
If you rephrase it like Pete had great competetion because other players were not vulnerable unlike the non Roger players in this era, makes true sense.
Roger Federer had to play with people of less talent compared with what we saw 10yrs back. There were all kinds of players at that time who used to consistently dominate Pete or Andre.
Until the emergence of Rafa and Djokovic who gave tough time to Roger? No one. Everyone used to think the best matchup to play Roger was incomplete players like Andy Roddick. That itself tells what level of opponents he is facing.
We keep seeing veterans like Fabric Santoro, Bjorklund winning against the top rated young players in the grand slam events consistently. That itself explains the consistency of non Federer players.
This guy Roger is such an arrogant player he once said even when he is not playing any where near his best tennis he can overcome Agassi. Two days back also he was saying he doesn't need to have a good day everytime but still he can manage to overcome others. He paid to pay the price for his words in the next round in the hands of Nalbandian who has all kinds of advantag over Roger.
Roger few years was very terrified with Safin. But Safin lacked consistency and that really helped Roger. He is at his peak now but 2008 is going to mark the birth of grand slam winners like Djokovic and Rafa( on non clay surfaces ) for sure.. |

borg himself used to say as he never won USOpen he never wanted to compete in australian open to make a GRAND slam.
for me roger is like the complete player you will ever get.
it doesnt matter in which era he was, he would have dominated the same way.
pete had great compitetion because he was vulnerable, he coulnt dominate the way fed is doing.
if you listen to agassi he says with pete you can find a weakness and target it but with fed its not possible. |

Borg didnt even compete in most of the AUS open because during that time it was held in like December.
Most of the players were against it and they wanted it to be changed to Jan like now. Just due to that reason Borg didnt playi n AUS open many a times.
Roger last 8 times this year which is making many believe that he can be conquered and that's all it matters between winning and loosing.
The year ending biggest Masters event at Shanghai is coming very soon and lets see who will win it. Mark my words 2008 is something that will see the downfall of Roger the so called great. |

Rafa is still in contention this year and his draw looks simply straight forward until final this year. It doesnt matter if the top players havent won.
Federer loosing to the same player twice which rarely happens. Lets see waiting for Djokovic to take over from Roger soon. |

It's back to back wins for David Nalbandian over Roger Federer. After his victory in the final of the Madrid Masters Series, "El Gringo" did it again! 6/4 7/6(3) in 1h41mins. Nalbandian played a first set almost entirely in the zone, to which Federer could not do anything. In the second set the undisputed number one was a break behind and managed to break back at 5 apiece and even get a set point when up 6-5 on the Argentinean serve. A matchpoint that he could not convert and was only able to force the second set tie breaker. A situation when Federer is usually at ease. But not this time. "Nalby" was too much for "Fed" to handle. The Argentine could get the back to back wins in Madrid and Paris. The last and only one to have done it was Marat Safin in 2004. Nalbandians quarterfinal match will be versus David Ferrer.

Finally he started to loose and looks like going to make it a habit.
Here comes David Nalbandian joining Rafa to give a tough time for Roger.
Nalbandian takes care of Roger twice in three weeks showing everyone out there that Roger is definitely beatable.
