Chiranjeevi is a mega movie hero but on television he’s appeared more as the villain. We don’t know about the TV channels in the South, but up North, the Srija-Sisir babes-in-the- woods drama has cast papa Chiranjeevi as something of a big bad wolf. Now we don’t know whether the film star’s bite is worse than his baying because we have not had the privilege of experiencing either.
Throughout the drama that has unfolded over last month, Chiranjeevi, Telegu cinema’s answer to Tamil’s Rajnikanth, has been mum — or, if he has spoken, his words did not reach New Delhi. It’s his brother who acts as the family spokesman.
In contrast, the attractive young couple have spoken up in the media with no holds barred. So we’re getting their side of the story, loud and clear while Chiranjeevi maintains his parental tight upper lip. Which is why we gain the impression that he is the baddie in the story. Lesson? In the time of 24x7 television news, you must be heard. Ditto for Ashok Todi of Kolkata, who has hidden behind a cloak of secrecy about Rizwanur, found dead by railway tracks, soon after his marriage to Priyanka Todi. Once again, the media space, left empty by the Todis has been occupied by Rizwanur’s brother and mother, and the suspicion therefore, that the Todis were not only responsible for Rizwanur’s death but also have something to hide.
