Reverence to NTR
THE 60-foot statue of late Nandamuri Tarakarama Rao is the talk of the town in Anantapur. The statue erected for picturising a song on Nandamuri Harikrishna for Seethaiah is drawing huge crowds from all over the district. The statue is made of plaster of Paris at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs and is put up near Sapthagiri circle in Anantapur town.
Fans of NTR, mostly comprising women, throng the statue after the shooting and perform puja by breaking coconuts and offering harathi. These rituals go on till midnight. Director Y.V. S. Choudhury says that Anantapur was selected because 25 NTR fans sacrificed their lives during the stir demanding reinstatement of NTR as chief minister in 1984. "Since then this place became very dear to Rama Rao and we have decided to picturise the song here in reverence to him," adds Choudhury. The film is produced and directed by Y.V.S. Choudhury under Bommarillu banner. |
