Please get the latest edition of the book titled "The intelligent investor" by Benjamin Graham. You better spend some time and try to understand this book. I think it's a very valuable source of knowledge for any individual investor. This is only a starting point, ofcourse. |

never put all your saving in stocks
make your own decisions
watch the market trends in various sectors
subscribe to some of the financial news letters
TOO MUCH WORK???
open an investment a/c with say fidelity and have them make decisions for you
My personal preference is osscillatory stocks...some stable and established scrips tend to fluctuate in an osscillatory mode...buy them at low point and sell em at the high point... |

inflation....the value of 1$ today is more than 1$ 5 years ago...this is due to inflation.
if you put your savings/capital gains returns in a bank account ...they make money in interest...

Hi Guys,
I am interested in serious discussion about stocks. I am in the market since 2001. Lost lot of money initially and at this point I am even. If you take inflation and interests in to account, I am still negative. In my view, for next year or so, Energy and resource (base metals) sectors will do very well. I am in these sectors for the last couple years. Tech. sector is not my favorite as I can never evaluate a high tech stock and put a value to it. Financial sector also may not do that well as they are at the end of the cycle (low interest, less provisions for loan losses etc.).
Finally my allocation is like this:
Energy and resource sectors: 60%
Financial (good dividend paying banks): 20%
Cash / T-Bills: 20%
