Nair also said that a new national coach would accompany the team to Sri Lanka.
After New Zealander John Wright's term ended with the Pakistan series April 17, BCCI is on the lookout for a new coach.
Nair, however, admitted that the process of finding a new coach had not yet started.
"The process has not even started so I cannot comment on whether we have short-listed anyone or not. We have more than three months to appoint a new one."
The official confirmed the board would not consult Wright on the new coach. "But he is free to write his views to us and BCCI will welcome it."
Nair also said that Wright would not be asked to work in any capacity - not even with the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore - before he leaves for home.

Wright criticises selection committee
John Wright, who coached India for four-and-a-half years and learnt the intricacies of the board and the team, has criticised the national selection panel for their "appalling procedures". During his tenure with Sourav Ganguly, Indian team selections were more consistent than before, but Wright believed that rules needed to be put in place to ensure even further consistency in the process.
Speaking to the Asian Age, Wright revealed how difficult it was with a constant chopping and changing within the board. "The selection committee is poor and needs to be streamlined. I have been with the team for the last four years and every year [when] the selection committee gets changed, new people come in with new sets of ideas, which makes things difficult. There should be a standard set of rules governing the selection procedure."
Previously, at his last press conference, Wright was asked whether he believed the coach should have a greater role in selection. His reply then suggested it could be a double-edged thing, when he cited the example of John Buchanan, the Australian coach, who was a part of the selection panel to start with, but that responsibility was taken away. But here he told the Asian Age, "The coach too does not have much say in selection. I don't understand why a player like Mohammad Kaif gets dropped. He is the best, as solid as wood, he should be included everytime."
Another sticking point for Wright was the belief that he was soft on the players. "That is baseless. You can't be a coach if you are not tough enough. Tell them to ask Dravid, Kumble or Sehwag and the other senior players in the team and they will tell you how tough I was." He opined that the next coach ought to be as tough as he was.
Wright said that he had not turned his back on coaching in the future. He had already been approached by the South African board as a replacement for Ray Jennings but the arrangement did not work out. It would not stop him from helping New Zealand if he was approached. He acknowledged that a need to be close to family had also influenced his judgement. "I have been away from my family and kids for four years. That is a lot of time."
Apart from being with the family, Wright said he would write a book. "It may be in the form of a memoir of my stay in India. I just love this place. Cricket is a passion here, unlike New Zealand, where cricket has only a few takers." But commentary was out of the question: "Oh, I wouldn't do that just for the sake of money. I already have a lot of money. I just don't like it."

that too coaching a team like india..with good success rate..is not a easy job.

John Wright vellipothunte chaala bhada gaa vundi. From my side, I have admired this guy a lot. He has never craved for recognition and accolades all he cared for was our team to do well.
I wish our board was more open to him. They should've given him say in the selection process and helped him build a strong team. Rather, our board just used his coaching skills in a very limited fashion.
I feel that our team could be / would be better if the BCCI was more committed to the sport rather than just money and personal fame.
Good luck John you have done more than what you could very sincerely. We appreciate all that you have done for this frail and fickle Indian team. You have made them stronger (but still incosistent) and have given us hope for the future. Thank you very very much and we wish you a good future wherever you are. |
