it seems that once again Ash failed in her international appearance... 'Ash too artificial on Oprah show' Aishwarya Rai's talkshow with Oprah Winfrey has kicked up a major debate over the role the beauty queen should have played on the show. Critics from across the globe reacted sharply to an article on Timesofindia.com – patting and rapping her. And coming on the heels of Amitabh Bachchan's show with Charlie Rose on PBS , she could not escape the inevitable comparison. What seems to have upset viewers the most were Ash's giggles. Natasha Shevde, a reader, says that the show indicates that she is nothing more that a pretty face. Expectations from the beauty queen seemed too high, with most readers regarding her as a global ambassador for India, even on a talk show. Most readers believe that although Ash managed to present herself in a way better than she ever did in the past, the beauty queen needs to do more as India's brand ambassador than she has done so far. They believe that she knows how to communicate but does not know what to communicate. Nausheen felt Ash seemed confused. She must prepare herself well for shows... ....that the world watches. Citing an instance, a reader says one would expect India's brand ambassador to be more intelligent. "What misconception do people have about Indian woman," Ash was asked. She replied: "People are surprised by my accent and English." Another reader, Jehan, said she should have thought over each question before answering. You cannot expect a 30-year-old beauty queen to act like a teenager, adds Arman. Another point of disappointment seems to be the way she had dressed for the show. Debu was unhappy to see Ash in pants. Instead of the formal wear, she should have picked up something glamorous, he felt. She could have worn a sari instead, said Archana Dumbre. Kabir too said that in a show watched by a large number of Americans, Ash should have appeared in ethnic Indian wear. Incidentally, in the show Ash made Oprah wear a sari that she had brought along for her, which, some readers said, should have been worn more gracefully by the latter. Going further criticising Ash,... ...the readers add that her presentation, appearance and her mind are too predictable. She must induce freshness in her style. There was not much difference between the show with David Letterman and this interview. She is hip but it is time to be real and practical, say those who watched the show. They add that beauty does not necessarily have the brains. Some readers also said she must develop an understanding of the western culture before featuring on their shows. Vachnamrut said Ash should understand American humour. Americans are open-minded people. They do not get impressed by the way one looks. Honesty is what they appreciate. Speaking of what Ash talked about, Srikanth says that instead of talking like politicians and defending Indian culture, Ash should talk about herself and her ventures. She spoke nothing unusual on the show and there was nothing so special about it. While talking, adds Ana Mishra, the Bollywood actress is unable to connect to her audiences. She should forget diplomacy, speak from the heart, and in a realistic manner. Also, readers maintain that she should act maturely and not giggle like a 16-year-old when asked if she has a boyfriend. Even as there was criticism, her fans did laud her ability to get Oprah to wear a sari. Mithil said it was a matter of great pride for India to have an Indian featuring on the show. Some readers appreciated... ...her ability to answer many ‘weird' questions like "Do people have a lot of sex in India?" And yet, she made the audience understand the Indian culture, they say. Her fans maintain that the beauty queen is a perfect face capable of representing the country on any international platform. Maheudi and Oberoi believe that she is a perfect beauty queen. Some readers were even disappointed at the way the Bollywood actress was being criticised. A reader said those who do not appreciate her abilities were jealous of Ash. Another reader maintained she was well poised. Giggling, he said, was a part of her personality. Aishwarya is the face of Indian woman, he said. Educated, beautiful beyond words, and most importantly self made. She's not a hypocrite. Uma Naresh said she had been excellent in defending Indian customs. Bhuvan maintained that she portrayed the country in the right way. God has given her that beauty and no one can change that source: www.timesofindia.com did any of you guys see her..what did you think.. |
