The film has been shown at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre everyday since its 1995 release and will create history in Indian cinema Friday as the only film to run for 500 weeks straight. Before Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge the previous longest-running movie was a 1975 action drama, starring Amitabh Bachchan, called Sholay which ran for five years at Mumbai's Minerva theatre. The noon show at the Maratha Mandir theatre sees 60 per cent of the 1,200 seats occupied daily. The crowd cheers and whistles when Khan makes his entry playing a college rugby match. Excitement also grows when Kajol, named as Simran in the film, makes a blissful entry dancing in the rain. "Looking at the sustained interest in the movie, I think I will screen it for another 100 weeks more." http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/110 8574.cms |
