It is stupid on Singhji's part to only highlight the good aspects of British Raj while ignoring the bad aspects. If he is sincere he has to mention both of them instead of degrading India as a representative of the whole country. BTW, I have high regards for this man, but I condemn these remarks by him. |

thats true to a large extent.
Still I was more concerned about the internal growth as the divide may grow further between poor and rich as we are opening doors to global trade. Already we are facing stiff competition from our competitors in domestic market also because of these new changes we made after signing GATT by PVR.
Esp.. agriculture and allied products, silk and cotton yarn are highly affected. so what do u think is the best to do out of all these. |

I really feel it is waste of time and money in lobbying for UN SC seat and entering into G8 and all.. the reason is we have hell lot of internal issues to resolve and compete in the global market.
Those G8 nations not only strong economically but also they are world leaders in global econmic market. Let us first achieve all that .. instead of doing all that without self strength. IMO.
And out of all I lost confidence on UN SC when US declared War on Saddam and dethorned him inspite he agrreed for all conditions of UN. UN played dumb all the way. |

The Prime Minister said, in what commentators said was a rallying cry for the new India, an emerging economy set on United Nations Security Council membership, that the Raj created institutions "fashioned in the crucible where an age-old civilisation met the dominant empire of the day."
Quoting Mahatama Gandhi, Singh said that even the naked ascetic, who put together the campaign for India's independence from Britain, had espoused "independence from the empire but from the British nation not at all." Singh's comments provoked surprise within the settled, large and diverse community of South Asia observers here. |
