Regarding telugu comedians...ive found some of the best material in the most unexpected of places....pan dabbas near chai stalls and dhabhas on the highways in AP.

some of them have real potential in them. audio tapes come pretty cheap too...

In the US....i regret still not visiting improv...the best place to enjoy standup...if you can keep you ego in check because you can run the risk of being the joke of the night...

The only desi stand up I know by name is russell peters...although ive seen a couple of ABCD comedians lucky enought to get their 5 minutes of fame on letterman and leno....regretably...i fail to recollect their names....

net net
there is good desi talent out there in comedy waiting for indians to warm up to them....

Chalam Sodara:

>>it's all about getting the right venue and a willing audience

SUre thing. I could not agree more. Again a great input from your side - regarding sharing time with experienced people. Practice is ofcourse good - but praticising with audience is what gets the best out of you and you get to learn mistakes.

There are some universities that teahc you stand-up and some books - but the first think is it has to be "within".

Let us wait for more people to give input and we can discuss more.

>> The average content is glrified by the personality who the audience percieve as a comedian

that is true with established comedians but I think for a capable comedian, rep doesnt really matter. when brahmam started off on DD or Dharmavarapu for that matter, no one knew who they were. it's all about getting the right venue and a willing audience. as you say, the local festival groupings might be a good option and the idea of standup comedy itself might be invigorating. one idea is to jettison yourself with an established comedian and present your wares. say the next time one of these big guys like brahmam , siva reddy come along .. try to steal a few mins of stage time with them. that might be a good starter, and in the ensuing functions will help in PR.

CHalam Sodara:

As you said Hinglish is a better bet - but say if one can work out Tenglish and coax a local retaurant or a find space in social gathering ( local telugu fuctions for Deepavali, Sankranthi etc) do you think we might succeed if we have talent.

Is the audience going to take this - I guess they would - I have ssen Tanikella and Venumadhav and Bhramanandam do this a couple of times in the US.

The problem though is that the laughter is proabaly becuase of the person who is enacting and not the contant. The average content is glrified by the personality who the audience percieve as a comedian - even before the act.

I hope I made my point clear - Please throw some light.

hindi+english might stand a better chance man but tenglish would be too narrow an audience I think. but one thing is certain, there aint many desi clubs where u can start with this. best place to look at would be NYC but again cannot be tenglish. our local restaurants do not have this as an option but one might coax them into looking at this as an entertainment aspect for a saturday evening. honestly though, I havent seen it anywhere in the US.

Bros and Padre's:

Any suggestions for an aspirant stand-up comedian. I think although Telugu stand-up has never been tried - it does not have the flexibility of English. It has to be very moderate and "social-threshold" limited in Telugu.

On the other hand there is alot of comeption in English - crossover people lie Peter Russel have had some success but - there are about a score of failures.

I need advise and am open to constructive discussion.

Thanks

Singh
