Celest mama, APril 15th na tax file seyyali. If needed u can file extension. SO before fiuling apply for TIN# or SSN whatever possible and after getting number file the return. U can include spouse and kids names as long as u are married (for spouse) and they were born in the tax year. Reallyd oesnt matter where tehy are in India or US. Also Marriage anedhi taxes parangaa penalty more than reward (when spouse works). |

<<<Basically if u are resident per tax, u wife also is resident. Are you sure AW garu. Doesn't she need to have ss# to be claimed as dependent. AFAIK one can cliam their spouse as dependent only after they got their SS #. My cousin got married last year and was not able to claim his spouse.( no SS#) |

VEGABOND MAMA here is the info first your wife has to be here before 31 dec and then you need to apply for her TIN(tax identification number) same for your kid also at your local IRS office once you get those you can show them as your dependents when you file the tax. You can call the IRS and talk to them if you have questions they are very friendly and knowledgable |

Vegabond mama, If u are married as on Dec 31st u can claim exemption for the whole year even if she is not in US. Basically if u are resident per tax, u wife also is resident. |

Hustler mama, Add this too. Married working couples pay more tax as they were taxed on the combined income thereby going to higher slab. |

yep there is. You can define it in your w2 form where if you are single count 1 exemption and if married one for you and one for your spouse total 2. But she need to have SS# other wise you have file only 1 exemption. |

Vega mams There are different tax brackets for single, married and married with children. A single person will end up paying more tax compared to a married person in the same income range and like wise married with children person will pay less compared to the above two. Hope this helps. |
