Vijayawada, Aug. 23: In a heinous act, the principal of a private school forced a class-seven girl to strip to take her naked photographs. After the traumatised girl disclosed the incident to her friend, all hell broke loose. The parents of the girl and local people thrashed Varlanka Srivnivasa Rao, principal and correspondent of the Gowthami Public School at Kedareswarapet, and bundled him to the nearby police station on Tuesday. He was later arrested. The girl’s mother, Ms Durga, said that the principal asked her daughter to come to school on Saturday to take a photograph saying it was necessary for the public examinations.
She went to school and returned after two hours but seemed terrified and abnormal. On Monday, she told a classmate that the principal took her nude pictures. The classmate narrated the shocking incident to her parents, who informed the victim’s parents, who confronted Srinivasa Rao. He denied the allegation initially but confessed after a while. Apparently, he had loaded the pictures on his computer.
The S. N. Puram police are investigating the case. Meanwhile, students’ organisations have demanded stringent action against the principal. The Students Federation of India girls’ wing convener, Ms U. Durga, said that “the principal could be part of a wider network exploiting women using their nude pictures.”
ABVP leaders N. Muniah and J. Srinivasa Rao said “it was a telling instance of the impact of western culture on people.” Activist and former leader of the State Teachers’ Union Tadi Sakunthala demanded severe action against the principal and withdrawal of the school’s recognition. Jan Sikshan Sansthan director Dr Nagalla Vidya Kanna, termed the incident as “heinous” and demanded severe punishment for the principal.
