Zee Television Network is going to enter the new telugu media waters with their channel Alpha Telugu. Alpha is Zee’s sub-brand for regional languages. Its already has channels in Punjabi, Gujrathi, Marathi and Bengali. This is Zee’s first venture in the South Indian market. The channel would go to air on the 24th of August 2004, and would have all the ingredients of a regular telugu channels like Entertainment, reality shows, education and a news bulletin. Looks like Zee does not have much Film-related software as nothing much was heard about their acquisitions. New channels generally attend events nearly a year before their launch, on the other hand Zee’s unit was spotted only very recently. The South Indian market is a Sun Network dominated with them acquiring over 250 films in each language, and being the early bird they even have the upper hand. Also, Peter Mukherjea the Chief at Star Network expressed their wish to enter the telugu television industry. They said instead of starting from scratch, they would acquire an exisiting channel, or partner with one for distribution. While the entrepreneurs who want to start new channels as such as working hard on the economics, the TV production houses who produce content for these channels are reaping money. Today, the TV industry is a high-volume, low-margin game. Hence, the television producers are having their say with the channels outsourcing for content.
