I was shell-shocked when I came across this diagram depicting the Nehru-Gandhi family tree. For example, before seeing this picture, I didn’t know that:
Five different religions are followed by different members of the family
Most of the family members either changed their name or religion or both
Menaka Gandhi changed her name to Maneka Gandhi to appease Indira Gandhi
Sanjiv Gandhi changed his name to Sanjay Gandhi to escape British Police on a car theft case
The Gandhi surname evolved from Feroz Khan’s mother, whose surname was actually Ghandy
Sonia Gandhi’s real first name is Sania
Indira Gandhi got married in London, not India |
