Little bit of SQL vaste ganaka .. startup job gaa ETL loki vachey mama .. you wouldnt learn whole lot of SQL through this job but you will get used to the environment very easily.. besides as many had said its easy to learn them .. DW deveopment w/ tools like Ascential Datastage, Informatica, Brio etc ... DW Reporting tools Congons, BO etc
On the other hand if you know more than a little of SQL and want to settle as DBA .. get into DW jobs where they dont use any tools but pure PL/SQL .. yo will learn a lot here .. raw stuff ..
btw nenu DataStage lo chestunna past couple of years nundi .. emanna help kaavalante cheppu .. good luck |

We get openings in this area rarely and they take senior guys for such stuff. Beginners get it, but depends on job.
just to clarify you, I mean non tool based ETL developers. freshers/beginners get into tool based ETL developer jobs with less effort. |

Here you go:
First of all DBA avvali ante neeku systems meeda complete idea ravali.. Ikkada aithe kaneesam two operatings systems (unix must, windows), cross platform architecture issues, oka database lo core, SQL and PL/SQL (oracle) perfect ga vachi vundali. Other Databases gurinchi kuda antho intho idea vundali.
In current competitive world, they are looking for ETL, Data modeling experitise also for DBA position (which was not necessary before)
If you look at any requirement for DBA openings you will get a clear cut idea how deep they go into in your area of expertise. Andulo kaneesam core anna nuvvu confident ga vunte appudu DBA ki try cheyyi.
To achieve the above expertise is not rocket science, all you need is to work in the different systems, at least with two different databases.
My best bet is start as
-> SQL Developer -> SQL Specialist -> Database Analyst/DBA
-> ETL Developer can also be picked for entry level role instead of SQL Developer. It works well to an extent but you should be in core mapping and transformations area where no Informatica, Data stage, Ab initio tools are used. In such roles you will get an exposure to learn SQL and PL/SQL programming. We get openings in this area rarely and they take senior guys for such stuff. Beginners does get it, but depends on job.
During the role of developer try to get your hands on DBA tasks and understand the core role of DBA..
Once you feel confident of database system you wokring, architectures, different OSes and processes.. finish certification and start applying on it. Certification is not mandatory.. but it takes you directly to the interview.. because they think atleast you know answers to some questions.
My suggestion is to try entry level as ETL/SQL Developer. Inka emanna kaavali specific database gurinchi ante mail kottu.. answer istanu.
btw, ide visayam manavaallu chaala mandi chepparu.. so think abt it.
