Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Indian guru who was considered the father of transcendental meditation, died on Tuesday at his residence in the town of Vlodrop in The Netherlands. He was 91.
Agencies quoted Bob Roth, a spokesman for the Transcendental Meditation movement, as saying that "he died peacefully at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday due to age."
Maharishi, the spiritual guru to the Beatles, introduced the world the Hindu practice of mind control to the United States in the late 1950s. However, it was visit of the star band -- the Beatles -- to his ashram in India in 1968 that saw the Transcendental Meditation movement prospering.
