Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to media baron Ramoji Rao in a land dispute case at Visakahapatnam subject to condition that he would surrender before the police within ten days.
Justice P Swaroop Reddy passed the order on a petition moved by Rao, Chairman of Eenadu Group, claiming that the case against him was false and he was implicated in it by complainant M A Varma only to "tarnish" his image as a public figure.
Rao said the allegation made against him in the complaint that he had surrendered 517 sq km of land leased out to him by Varma to the government without informing him was false.
Varma accused Rao of having cheated him by not informing him about the surrender.
Rao said he had not surrendered any land belonging to Varma and was ready to cooperate with the investigating agencies in whichever manner they wanted.
The judge said there was no possibility of Rao running away and that he is entitled to anticipatory bail subject to the condition that he would surrender before the police in Visakhapatnam within ten days and execute surety bonds. PTI
