HYDERABAD: Frenetic activities are on in the Chiranjeevi camp to register a political party very quickly. This is even as Allu Aravind, the mega star's brother-in-law and main strategist is holding discussions with a cross section of people inviting them to join the proposed new party.
Though no firm date has been announced by the film idol's camp for launching the party, most analysts now believe that it would be on April 7. Analysts said that the people that Aravind has been talking to not only include politicians across the spectrum but also diverse professionals.
Chiranjeevi campsters are tight-lipped about the party name and the symbol it would adopt, but analysts point out that the mega star would not have any control over the party symbol. As per rules of the Election Commission (EC), a party is allotted a symbol on the basis of its past electoral performance. This means that a new party is given no new symbol.
However, as a matter of strategy what new parties do is to advice all its candidates to adopt the same symbol, from free symbols listed by the Election Commission. This way most of the candidates of a new party can stand on a common symbol platform.
"As per EC norms, if two candidates, one an independent and another a representative of a registered political party apply for the same symbol, then the latter gets precedence," a legal analyst said.
Other analysts point out that usually around 80 per cent of the candidates of a new but registered party are able to get a common symbol.
There are 67 symbols on the free list of the EC, which any independent or candidates from registered but unrecognised (read new) party can choose from.
The symbols are numerous and include diverse ones ranging from almirah, box, basket, bangles, carrot, cot and jug to letter box, kettle, kite, road roller, saw, scissors and violin, wool and whistle. But the sun, which some say is Chiranjeevi's preferred choice is not there in the list. "Chiranjeevi's men will have to choose from these 67 symbols," analysts pointed out. |
