Telugucinema.com 3.25/5 Analysis The film tells the story of Pandurangadu, a devotee of Lord Krishna. Based on the NTR’s classic - Panduranga Mahatyam, the movie doesn't look like exact remake. Basic storyline is similar to that classic, yet the script completely differs from the movie. While the classic was more about a son repenting for mistreating his parents, Pandurangadu has dealt with 'Krishna tatva'. And also Lord Krishna takes the cake here unlike the original. After Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu, director K Raghavendra Rao once again comes up with winner with Pandurangadu. His midas touch is clearly visible in the last 45 minutes of the film. The magical combination of MM Keeravani and Raghavendra Rao works again. Indeed, Keeravani steals the show once again with extremely soulful devotional numbers and extraordinary re-recording. The first half is not good. One can feel boredom prior to the interval. The movie bounces back in the last 45 - 50 minutes with a pace that never dulls a moment there. That saves the entire movie. The first half has overdose of 'Srungaram'. This portion of movie reaffirms the fact that 'Darshakendrudu Raghavendra Rao' comes to his elements in executing 'devotional scenes' and 'romantic songs'. Performances Expectedly, Balakrishna shines in the role of Lord Krishna. Of the two roles he played, it is Krishna's role that scores although his performance as Bhakta towards the climax is good. But makeup (the blueness) should have been subtle. For his age, flirting with girls is not apt and ageing is visible in his face. Sneha has now perfected the art of suffering of a wife in films. She is excellent. Tabu looks hot. She shows off her assets more than required in a very important role of a prostitute. You get to see plenty of cleavage in the movie. Mohan Babu in a small role is good. K Vishwanath and others have done justice to the role. Raghavendra Rao should have concentrated more on the aspect of casting. Technically, there is only one person’s work that dominates throughout the movie - Keeravani's. Simply, he is marvelous. Added to his great swaras, lyrics compliment them perfectly. Suddala Ashok Teja's touching lyrics in Matrodevobhava and Chandrabose's romantic numbers deserve special praise. Malayalam singer Madhu Gopala Krishna’s rendition has brought freshness. Music is backbone to the movie. Bottom-line Balakrishna's fans can finally heave sigh of the relief. K Raghavendra Rao and M M Keeravani's magical combination works again. Last 45 minutes and music are Pandurangadu's biggest strengths. Balakrishna shines in the role of Lord Krishna. While the first half has overdose of 'glamour' (cleavage show), second half has elevated the movie. On the whole it is worth watching for post-interval episodes and excellent songs. Rating: 3.25/5 |

Cinegoer.com 3.5/5 Pandurangadu is probably the best script K. Raghavendra Rao could get at this point of time. The story of a man who's gone wayward and then repents, thus becoming Lord Krishna's true devotee-this is a devotional but the director didn't have to struggle to get in the commercial element. Pandurangadu's wayward behavior includes alcohol, lies and women. In typical KRR style, the first half is filled with fruits and flowers, the dialogues full of sexuality and sensuality and the images intended to titillate. The protagonist repenting and becoming the Lord's devotee dominates the second half, and Balakrishna delivering a believable performance, not to mention his double role as Lord Krishna (highly reminiscent of his legendary father's) are factors sure to pull in the crowds. Plot Pandurangadu comes from a respectable family who are devotees of Krishna. He is mischievous from his childhood, and it doesn't leave him in his adulthood. His vices include women and alcohol, and unlike his family, he is not a devotee. An ardent devotee of Krishna is a girl called Laxmi, to whom the Lord comes in a dream and tells her to marry Panduranga. He runs away at the talk of marriage, being in a relationship with a courtesan Amrutha. Krishna does his Leela, and Panduranga ends up married to Laxmi but continues his illicit affair with the courtesan. Amrutha and her aides loot him, while he throws his family out and does every bad deed in the book. But repentance dawns and Panduranga finds his God. Story, Screenplay and Direction Except for Pandurangadu's family and one or two others (like Mohanbabu playing a sage), each character in the movie is handed either a)dialogues full of sexuality b)vulgar gestures or c)both. So what's new? Nothing, except the clever interweaving of a devotional, which KRR is pretty good at making it highly watchable along with all the other elements the whistle-hooters look for, of which KRR is the King. Who's complaining? Unless you are planning to take your grandmother to the movie, which will leave you throughout the first half squirming in your seat with embarrassment, every double entendre is targeted in reliving those good old days when every season there would be a KRR movie to watch with every Masala element and the corresponding seasonal fruits in full attendance. Oranges make their presence felt in Pandurangadu. The first half, the first song, Tabu and even Sneha in one song along with all the comic characters like Ali, Suneel (used sparingly in a scene or two) are complete Paisa Vasool for the 10 rupee crowds; and in reality to the rest of them too, most of whom enjoy it, albeit discreetly. "The script/character required it". Right. Then why wasn't the old Pandurangadu shot like that? To their credit, the new one has honesty in intention-tell a story, but get the masses to come back through hook or crook. The narration is good, and K. Raghavendra Rao is a storyteller, which is where the movie scores. Had it been just the "commercial elements" and no real story to sustain it, it would have been worthless. But thankfully it isn't so. But there is some 80s style imagery, old/routine clichés in the familial scenes and there is a break in the narration in the second half. Well, it's an old story, and what more, it's actually a period movie. Otherwise, the story part of it is okay, even with the melodrama in the second half. The makeup for Balakrishna as Panduranga and Tabu is terrible. Balakrishna as Lord Krishna reminds you of NTR, although the makeup even there is not perfect. The special effects where Krishna takes his devotee to Brindavanam is very amateurish. Sneha and NBKPerformances Balakrishna does the best he did in the past 5 years, and this is not merely about a hit or flop. He has clearly delivered what the director required him to, and that is where he scores. As in Bhairava Dweepam where he was so convincing in the Janapadam style movie, in this devotional, Balakrishna seems to be on home ground. Of course, even the mischief in the first half, wait, especially the mischievous aspect of the first half, comes naturally to the actor. The only flaw was with the makeup. Sneha is the perfect good, innocent devotee and loyal wife. Tabu, a firebrand performer, disappoints badly in spite of her mentor's presence. Vishwanath and Siva Parvati and the rest of Panduranga's family members justify their roles. Music and Dance The music is the highlight of the movie. Three of the songs have the ladies (Tabu, Sneha and others) shown in trademark Raghavendra Rao style, embrace it or leave it. The devotional numbers are lovely, catchy and have a familiar air courtesy Keeravani, and the picturization is kept colorful or in the case of the last two songs, intense. Last Word It's a true blue KRR movie, and Keeravani's music is an asset. With the script being so, we get to see both the worlds of the director, and one might argue and say it could have been more sober and much neater, but then it wouldn't be a Raghavendra Rao movie. If that sounds good to you, then despite the obvious flaws (editing, efx, makeup..) then it will entertain you to the core. As mentioned above, it's not for your granny's eyes. |

Pandurangadu- Movie review May 30, 2008 Film-Pandurangadu Star Cast- NBK, Sneha, Tabu, K Visweanath, LB Sreeram, Mohanabu etc. Directed by- K raghavendar Rao Music by- MM Keeravaani Release date-30th May 2008 Good- Every one must watch this film. Manava sambadhalu ardhika sambadhulu ga maruthunna ee kalam lo ( Human relations are becoming merely financial relations in this generation)--- this is the film for every one. Story;- Ranga (NBK)- is the son of K Viswanath. K Viswanath is a rich Jamindar. Ranga julayi ga perigadani cheppochchu. He tries to spend most of his time with girls. Ranga comes across a girl Amritha who is prostitute, role played by Tabu. Ranga aame valalo padi pothadu. Ranga ignores his family in the company of Amritha. In the mean time, Lakshmi (Sneha) comes to Ranga's house to marry Ranga. Lord Krishna directs Lakshmi to marry Ranga in her dream. But Ranga refuses to marry Lakshmi. But the situavation arises where Ranga has to marry Lakshmi. Even after the marriage with Lakshmi , Ranga spends all his time with Amritha. Ranga neglects his wife, family and parents in the company of Amritha. In the later stages Ranga comes across Muni, (Mohanbabu) and Muni opens his eyes. How Ranga changes and look after his aged parents is the remaining story. Performances; Balakrishna- wonderful performance, he remembers his father NTR in the role of Lord Krishna. He makes the audience to cry with the performance in Ranga role. Excellent performance by Balakrishna. One can't say his performance is better than late Sri NTR in Panduranga Mahathyam, but Balayya has done justice to his role. Tabu who played the role of Prostitute - the role has plenty of scope for director K Raghavednar rao to show his style of filming. She is glamorous and she entertains masses with her suitable performances. Sneha played the role of innocent devotional girl. Sneha perfectly matched for this role. KRR gets 100% marks for selecting Sneha for Lakshmi role. K Viswanath and Mohanbabu have done justice to their roles. MM Keeravani's music is excellent and re-recording also good. LB Sreeram played the role of Narada and brings some laughs in between. Finally K Rgahvednar Rao succeeded in bringing another successful devotional flick after Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu. At the same time, K Raghavednar Rao and writer JK Bharavi must have taken some more care to get the comedy scenes. On the whole, the film is good. It is a message oriented film with Bakthi, Mukthi and Rakthi along with the responsibility of the youth towards their parents. |

Pandurangadu 30 May 2008 ‘Pandurangadu’ Review Title: Pandurangadu Genre: Devotional Movie Make: Straight Banner: RK Films Cast: Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu, Mohan Babu, K Vishwanath etc Music: MM Keeravani Cinematography: Dialogues: JK Bharavi Director: K Raghavendra Rao Producer: K Krishna Mohan Theatrical Release: 30 May 2008 RATING: 7/10 Story: A treat which begins with seductive touch and ends up with a spiritual touch, the story is about Pundareeka Ranganath (Balakrishna) who is born on Krishnashtami and very much similar to the god’s leelas he happens to be a naughty thief too. However, as he grows up his activities also increase which bring embarrassment to his family comprising of his father (K Vishwanath), mother, brothers and others. Ranganath does not listen to anyone and carries on with his philandering and things take a nasty turn when he starts spending maximum of his time in the company of the courtesan Amrita (Tabu). All his family’s pleas fall on Ranganath’s deaf ears and this is being watched from above by none other than Lord Krishna (Balakrishna again) himself and he decides that time has come for a change. He comes into the dream of his most ardent devotee Lakshmi (Sneha) and advises her to marry Ranganath who lives in the next village. Taking this as a direct command from god, Lakshmi lands up at the door of Ranganath’s residence, wins the heart of his family members. After a lot of persuasion, Ranganath finally marries Lakshmi but then his whims with Amrita do not end. Finally, Lord Krishna decides to intervene and with his magical touch brings about a change in Ranganath. However, the evil elements (K R Vijaya and Apoorva) plan an evil plot and before Ranganath realizes he has written all his wealth to Amrita and has also ousted his family including his devoted wife. Things begin to change when truth realizes on him and what turns out as a life of womanizing and philandering for Ranganath turns into a path of utter divinity and service to Lord Krishna himself. How that happens forms the rest of the story. Artistes and Technicians: Balakrishna’s performance deserves appreciation. His passion for portraying mythological and devotional type roles is seen on the screen. He is totally immersed in his character. He has shown the heights of performance in the song ‘Matrudevo Bhava anna sukti marichaanu..’ in second half. His portrayal as Lord Krishna is also good. Sneha is the heart of the film for showing her glamour as well as sensibility in her character. She was rightly plugged into her character. She enacted even the pathos part well. Tabu is the center of attraction for entire mass audiences. She has shown all her 38-year-old oomph factor without any hesitation. She proves to be the next ever green damsel in the list of Jayaprada, Sridevi, Hema Malini…etc. With the creativity of K Raghavendra Rao she is shown in romantically erotic way but not in vulgarly obscene way. Shiva Parvathi is not that appropriate in her role as mother to the lead. Somebody with more sympathetic face would have pulled in for that role. K Vishwanath justified his role as old father. . Choreography is up to the mark. Many songs are pictured in aesthetic way with loads of traditional eroticism. Music is the heart for this film and they have got elevation only with picturization than mere listening. But still the entire audio is not on par with that of ‘Annamayya’ and ‘Sri Rama Dasu’. Keeravani’s graph has dropped down for sure in his third devotional attempt. Lyrics by Veda Vyas are average, Chadrabose’s are ok and Shiva Shakthi Dutta’s are the best. Costumes and make up could have been better. K Raghavendra Rao and JK Bharavi have successfully completed another devotional journey. The comparison of this movie with their earlier films- especially Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu will certainly be talked about. The film hasn’t reached that height as those two films did in output. But independently the film stands to be a masterpiece that needs to be shelved in video libraries. Great Scenes: When Pundareeka Ranganath asks Lord Krishna to wait at the door step till he completes his service for parents Lord Krishna’s Vishwaroopam Climax in which Pundareeka merges into Lord Krishna getting salvation First Half and Second Half: First half of the movie goes with flirting acts of Balakrishna and full of romance is dished here. The story holds interest as it enters second half. And it fills with pathos and repentance, finally culminating at the enlightenment. The crux of the movie ‘parents shouldn’t be ignored’ is conveyed well. Report: The film cannot be compared with old ‘Panduranga Mahatyam’ of NTR. Or it can neither be directly compared with the recent mythological films ‘Annamayya’ or Sri Ramadasu’ of K Raghavendra Rao-Bharavi combination. ‘Pandurangadu’ may not sound great with those comparisons but sounds ‘good’ when considered independently. The film has social interest accompanied with devotional fervor. It needs word of mouth publicity to pick up at box office. Family audiences prove to be real patrons for this film. Recommendation: Should be watched to know the essence of a devotional classic -Reviewed by Timmarusu (timmarusu@gmail.com) |

Andhra Vilas Review Pandurangadu Starring: Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu, K Vishwanath and others Direction: K Raghavendra Rao Music: MM Keeravani Release date: 30 May 2008 Balakrishna finally scores with this mythological film. He plays a dual role and does justice to both. Director k K Raghavendra Rao continues from where he left in Sri Ramadasu and proves once again that when it comes to mythological films, he is the best among the present generation. Story Ranga is the son of a rich zamindar played by K vishwanath. He is wayward from childhood and does not have a care in the world. He whiles away all his time in the company of girls. Ranga comes into contact with Amritha (Tabu) a prostitute, who causes a spell on him with her beauty and oomph. Ranga spends all his time in the company of Amritha. Around this time Lakshmi (Sneha) a great devotee of lord Krishna comes to Ranga’s house to marry him as directed by lord Krishna in her dream. Ranga refuses to marry her but after some time; he marries her under some strange circumstances. Even after marriage, Ranga continues to see Amritha and neglects Lakshmi completely. Ranaga even drives his parents and other relatives including his wife away from home. He later comes in contact with a muni (Mohan Babu) who opens his eyes. The rest of the story is how the reformed Ranga now looks after his aged parents and takes the path to devotion and service of the lord. Performance Balakrishna plays a dual role. He looks good as lord Krishna and in some scenes; he reminds one of his late father NT Rama Rao. Balakrishna really comes into his own in the second half, after he realizes his folly and sets out on the path of atonement for his sins. He does an excellent job and deserves full appreciation. Sneha as a devotional girl and as the wife of Ranga comes up with another neat and convincing performance. She picks up from where she left in Sri Ramadasu. This film is definitely another feather n her cap. Tabu as the sexy and ravishing Amritha comes up with another sizzling performance. Her dance number is both sexy as well as sensuous. K Vishwanath does a neat job as the father of Ranga. Mohan Babu’s appears in a brief role but he also leaves a good impression. The rest of the star cast is okay. The comedy by Sunil falls flat. LB Sriram as Narada muni brings some laughter. The songs are good and the production values are also good. The films runs t a slow pace in the first half but picks up speed and interest in the second half, particularly after Ranga comes into contact with a muni. There are some racy dialogues by Balakrishna that bring in a roar of approval from the front benches. Balakrishna also appears briefly in the get up of a celestial beauty and looks very convincing. The film is a good one to watch but may not appeal to the youth. JK Bharavi and K Ragavendra Rao should have taken great care in the dialogues. Some scenes and dialogues spoil the devotional aspect and sanctity of the film. |

Bharatstudent.com Film - PANDURANGADU Rating: 3.25/5 Banner: R K Films Cast: Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu, K Viswanath, Mohan Babu, Archana, Balaiah, Sunil, L B Sriram, Suhasini, Sana, Dharmavarapu, Ali, Ananth and others Music: M M Keeravani Cinematography: Jayaram Director: K Raghavendra Rao Producer: K Krishna Mohan Released Date: May 30, 2008 Story: A divine treat, the story begins with the happy go lucky Pundareeka Ranganath (Balakrishna) who turns out to be a spoilt brat of one of the most respected village heads (K Viswanath). Though the family is a very conventional and respected folk, Pundari is one man who is quite the contrast and goes around womanizing almost every girl in the locality. This becomes a major headache for the family but they are helpless as he does not listen to anyone in the house. In comes a dancer from a far away place who goes by the name of Amrutha (Tabu) and Pundari falls head over heels for her. On the other hand, there is a well respected elder (Balaiah) who are staunch devotees of lord Krishna, among them is their daughter Lakshmi (Sneha) who believes in nothing but service to Lord Krishna. All this is being watched by the lord from above and soon he decides to bring about a change in the whole story. He comes in Lakshmi's dream and asks her to marry Pundari, she takes it as a divine command and after a great perseverance and patience finally manages to marry him. However, his nature does not change much until divine intervention happens but not before Pundari has to forego his family before the truth enlightens on him. What happens from there forms the rest of the story. Presentation: The director has come up with a divine subject and though the narration was a bit shaky his presentation kind of summed up for the message. The film's life and soul is the excellent background score and some really mesmerizing songs along with some smart camerawork and visual effects. The editing could have been better and the script would have made an impact if it had more velocity. The sets were well made and the costumes were grand which depicted the era aptly. Balakrishna has come out with an excellent performance and scenes where he was Lord Krishna reminded many of the great NTR, the transition from a play boy to a totally devoted bhakt was well emoted by him. Sneha was the perfect match as the devoted disciple of the god and an obedient housewife. Tabu provided enough glamour as the woman trading her flesh for wealth and her role was well done. The comedy track involving Sunil, Dharmavarapu and other comedians was not convincing. Mohan Babu came out with a superb performance though his role was brief. The others did their roles with the required standards. Conclusion: The movie was meant to be a divine subject so it would have made more impact had the film makers given that angle more gravity. The first half revolves totally around the escapades of the protagonist and the dialogues looked like they written to appeal the mass audience. Even the second half continued a bit of eroticism before the actual subject came into picture, things changed a lot after the entry of Mohan Babu and the film carries a good momentum after that. The film could have been a lot better if there was equal balance between the divine elements and the sensuality aspects. Even the comedy track was ignored despite an efficient cast that could have brought mileage for the film. However, the makers must be appreciated for a bold attempt to come up with such a subject in this modern age. Perhaps a little more of groundwork and depth would have made it a masterpiece. Bharatstudent verdict: Can be watched once... |

source :http://eduentertainment.blogspot.com/2008/05/pandu rangadu-movie-review.html Pandurangadu is a Telugu film, starring Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu and others , directed by K Raghavendra Rao. Produced by ---, and music composed by M M Keeravani. This film released on Summer 2008. * Starring: Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu and others * Director: K Raghavendra Rao * Music Director: M M Keeravani * Release date: 30-5-2008 Story: Kundarika ( Balakrishna ) is a follower of Lord Krishna but for the wrong reasons. He does all the mischievous things that Lord Krishna did in his reign. Once when his family members ask him to marry he leaves his village and runs away. After his family members perform a yagnam he comes back to his village. In the neighboring village Lakshmi ( Sneha ) is a big devotee of Lord Krishna. One night Lord Krishna appears in her dreams and asks her to marry Kundarika. So Lakshmi's father approaches Bala Krishna but he refuses. Later after some persuasion from Lakshmim, Kundarika accepts the marriage. In the mean time Amrutha ( Tabu ) a dancer comes to their village. Kundarika is mesmerized by her beauty and goes into a relationship with her. He offers all the gold in the house to her. But after the marriage he stops visiting Amrutha. Knowing this Amrutha's mother calls Kundarika for a meal and serves poison to him and grabs all his wealth. The rest of the movie is how Kundarika turns to Lord Krishna's devotee and get backs to his family.... Highlights Nandamuri Balakrishna's action in the movie is the top notch. He managed the dual roles of Lord Krishna and Kundarika very well. He adjusted from the woman's man role to devotee role very well. Balakrishna as Lord Krishna made the audience think of Sr.NTR . Sneha's acting has done a good job as wife of Balakrishna. K.Vishwanth as always stealed the show with his acting. Mohan Babu's guest role is brief but brilliant. Raghavendra Rao's direction showed in the songs. Also he succeeded in showing the movie differently when compared to his previous movies. The taking second half of the film is simply awesome. Second Half of the movie dominates. Kiravani's tunes added to the movie. Sidelights: L.B. Sri Ram as Narada did not fit the role. Bharavi's story is not as effective as his previous ones. The graphic work in the movie is too weak to handle. The story is the first half seems a little bit dragged. There is no much comedy in the movie. The comedy scenes involving Sunil, Ali and Dharmavaram Subramanyam pertained to a few giggles in the audience. Raghavendra Rao's selection of character artists for Lord Krishna's wives did not please the audience. Verdict: Movie is a 100% hit and works out very well at the box office. Rating : 7/10 |

GA Review Film: Pandurangadu Banner: RK Films Rating: 3.25/5 Cast: Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu, Mohan Babu, K Vishwanath etc Music: MM Keeravani Art: Bhaskar Raju Dialogues: JK Bharavi Director: K Raghavendra Rao Producer: K Krishna Mohan Released On: 30 May 2008 The story of Lord Panduranga is a part of 'Skanda Purana', one of 18 puranas, the treasure house for divine stories. Tenali Rama Krishna, one of the Astadiggajas of Sri Krishna Deva Raya wrote 'Panduranga Mahatyam' taking the gist from Skanda Purana. Kamalakara Kameshwara Rao directed the film 'Panduranga Mahatyam' in the production of Trivikrama Rao in 1957, taking Pundareeka Vriththantham from Tenali Ramakrishna's 'Panduranga Mahatyam'. Now the same was remade as 'Pandurangadu' adding new colors in tune with the taste of contemporary audiences. Let us see how it went on: Story: It is the story of Pundareeka (Balakrishna) who leads a flirting life and neglects his parents (K Vishwanath and Shiva Parvathi) as well as wife Lakshmi (Sneha). In his lusty hangover he also kicks out all his family members. He falls in the trap of a crooked prostitute Amrutha (Tabu) and loses everything. She betrays him along with her mother (Y Viajaya) and grabs his property. He then also tries to enjoy the river goddesses Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswathi due to his lust. He tries to kick a saint (Mohan Babu) with his leg but gets paralyses stroke. He then realizes that his paralysis is due to his sins. He gets repentance and becomes a devotee of Lord Krishna. He goes back to his parents and serves them. His wife Lakshmi and finally he himself get salvation because of his bhakthi. Performances: Balakrishna looked best in Lord Krishna's role. He appeared like Nata Rathna NTR in many frames in Lord Krishna's get up. His color on his body was very dark in some scenes but on a whole that is not disturbing any way. His role as Pundareeka in negative shades also grooved well. He must be appreciated for picking up this role. Sneha is the right option to play the role of Pundareeka's wife. She rightly performed in her role. Tabu is the glamour element in the film and she didn't hesitate to portray with all of her oomph factor. But she has 'shown' more in some scenes where there is no necessity. K Raghavendra Rao's magic is seen again on silver screen. Using the elements like fruits, milk and flowers for bringing in erotic appeal is known only for KRR. K Vishwanath is apt in father's role. Mohan Babu although appeared for a brief time, there is a purpose for his role. JK Bharavi's dialogues are ok. But crossed limits in some scenes and lacked in required depth in others. K Raghavendra Rao's efforts are rightly spread on screen. He has shown newness in many things. He has even shown the temples in Combodia for songs in dream sequences. Although not in the degree of Sri Ramadasu or Annamayya, he could bring in devotional depth in this theme as well, especially in climax. Best Things: Music plays best role in entire film. Lyrics are also aptly written and pictured in very sensible way-although the song 'Kosala Desapu..' is too erotic. Lord Krishna's 'Vishwa Roopam' scene certainly deserves great mention. That's splendid and marvelous. Mohan Babu's role, although short has made his presence felt in right manner. The film stepped into right tempo since his entrance. The message 'parents are more than the Lord God' is rightly conveyed which is a must for people at this juncture. The scene where Pundareeka asks Lord Krishna to wait outside for him until he completes his 'seva' for his father is really wonderful. 'Critic'al Aspects: Sneha's initiative to marry Ranga (Pundareeka) by showing her over-activeness in front of his house is something that's not in right sync with the tempo Sunil's comedy with hairy get up is also nasty that kicks out audiences from getting immersed into the theme In a scene Tabu dances in emotion by applying vermilion to her face. Audiences have shouted 'laka laka laka..' at that time. When the scene is composed with emotion which is more than required, the result will be that. The scene of Lord Krishna showing Brindavanam to Pundareeka is made with not so convincing graphics. Director would have looked into something spiritual with meaningful analysis for 'Krishna Tatwam' in stead of that. Although the questions regarding 16000 gopikas and 8 wives of Lord Krishna have risen in the film, they weren't answered in right 'taatwik way'. Writers of JK Bharavi's standard must be able to bring the gist of Krishna Tatwam in that scene. That was not rightly utilized as the answer given by Lord Krishna is very normal. Some dialogues have crossed the line- 'naavi pettudu pallu neevu pettudu………." (Brahmanandam's dialogue with Y Vijaya). As the right patrons for this film are family audiences, dialogues of that sort would disturb a little. Kids should watch mythological and devotional films to learn the essence of bhakthi and tatwa but not the meaning of these mundane dialogues. What happened to prostitute Amrutha and her mother? Why those villains weren't shown again? Balancing act hasn't happened by not putting an end to those villains. Analysis: The films of this sort should come again and again. They should teach the essence of Indian culture, bhakti and traditions. Film makers also should focus more on such subjects. 'Pandurangadu' is definitely the subject that has elements to make a commercial film. The subject has ample rakthi along with bhakti. Both these bhakti and rakhti should overlap in right manner. But that didn't happen here. Only in the second half (especially from the appearance of Mohan Babu's role), the spirit of the film is underlined. Last 30 minutes has enough of devotional fervor. The film could have been better if the scenes in first half were composed with more conviction. To sum up, this film is a must watch for all those who wish to know the essence of bhakthi and value of parents. |

Onion Dosa Review Story: Pundareeka Ranganathudu aka Rangadu (Balakrishna) is born in a family of Lord Krishna's Devotees. But he is a womenizer who never cares about his Parents( K.Viswanath & Sivaparvati)or their wishes. He was lured by a dancer Amrutha(Tabu ) and soon he was in a thick relationship with that woman.Lakshmi(Sneha) is an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and one day Lord Krishna( Balakrishna)appear in her dreams and tell her to marry Rangadu.Parents forcibly convince Rangadu to marry Lakshmi.Even after marriage Rangadu is the same old guy with the same old affair with Amruta. How Lord Krishna changes his attitude towards family & life forms rest of the story. Highlights: Apart from his Massive star image Balakrishna has his unique record of enacting in variety of roles in various genres.Films like Aditya 369,Bhairava Dweepam and now Panduranga Mahatyam showcases his versatility and proves that in his generation of actors he is the true successor of Legend NTR not because of blood but his talent, screen presence and dare to attempt such films&charecters.Balakrishna's performance in dual role of Lord Krishna & Rangadu standsout. He looks awesome as Lord Krishna. His acting in this film can be said as one of his finest performances in his career. K.Raghavendrarao spelled the magic again. He delivers another touching devotional drama,a tough remake of a timeless classic, successfully. His narrative style ,a combination of emotion, entertainment&romance ,worked well with this film. The movie has Navarasalu and there is an overdose of Srungara rasam in the first half( as demanded by the script !? ;-) ) MM Keeravani's music is the backbone of the movie. The songs, bit songs and the background score are very good. Sneha is apt &performed well.Tabu looks sexy. When Sudhala Ashok teja got national award for Nenu Saitham song, there were many comments heard within the industry as the song isn't his original. But those voices cannot comment on his ability if they listen to Amma ninnu okka Sari chusi from Pandurangadu.A truely magnificient work by Sudhala Ashok teja.Greatest lyric written in recent times. Last 40 minutes of the movie is the biggest asset for the film with magnanimous acting of Balakrishna and arresting songs Matrudevobhava,Hey Krishna Mukunda Murari,Neelamegha, Emani Adaganu. Songs picturisation is good just like any other KRR's film. Unlike many other devotional dramas the film was wrapped in 2hour 30mins. Sidelights: JK Bharavi's script is good but it could be better in some of the key scenes. Casting isn't that good.A better cast(for the roles of 8wives of Lord Krishna,Rangadu's mother )could bring much quality for the film. Balakrishna looks aged for the charecter of a flirt. So is the case of Tabu, even though she looks hot. Public Talk : Good Movie.Worth watching. Industry Talk : Movie got Good talk allover.Success guarenteed.it takes time to decide the range of success,it depends on how the class receives the mass hero and how the mass receives the classic. |
