gaali mama, ee vishayam lo maa Canadian govt. plan KEKA. It's called RESP (registered education savings program). It works like this. You open an account on your child's name (or family name for that matter) in any financial institution. You can contribute up to $2500 per year per child in to the account (after tax money, of course). Govt. will match 20% i.e., $500 per year per child in cash to that account. You can do that until Child reaches 18 years. You have full control with the money, you can invest in stocks, bonds, options etc.. Once the child goes to the college, you withdraw the necessary money yearly to pay of his/her fees, living expenses etc. This withdrawal will be treated as income for that year for the child. Obviously the money you withdrew per year would be less than min income level, your kid will pay no tax. KEKA scheme use chesukunte. I am investing in this since 1999. |

Hi guys,
I don't know how many of you invest in 529 plans for child education. My manager recently informed me about www.upromise.com. Check it out. Its like a rewards program for the money you spend with credit cards or internet shopping. The rewards get credited as a dollar amount to the 529 plan that is supported by upromise.
This site got bought by Sallie Mae and hence seems to be ligitimate.
