No matter what the rankings say--and they continue to say "Federer"--at this moment in time, Nadal is the best tennis player on the planet. He hasn't lost a match since suffering an injury in Rome. He won in Hamburg. He won the French Open. He beat Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic at Queen's Club. At Wimbledon, he punished six different men and then, to top it all, beat the best grass court player since Pete Sampras--a man in the running for best player of all time--in one of the most intense, enthralling matches in the sport's history It doesn't matter if the point system agrees, or if he fades in the summer hard court season. There can only be one No. 1, and right now, it's Rafa. |

Sampras won his 13th at age 28 and his 14th at age 31. Is that what is going to happen with poor Roger? well he is technicall 27 now anyways.. |

“Whoever wins the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year for me is the number one in the world,” said three-times champion Boris Becker. “The computer just didn’t get it yet.” |

When asked whether it was a consolation that it was a great player like Nadal who had put an end to his 65-match winning streak, Federer’s humour became even darker. "No. Zero consolation. I didn’t learn anything new from today – certainly not about how to play him on grass. This really hurts… Losing Paris for me was nothing, losing here is a disaster." No more, no less. The straw that broke the camel’s back came when he was quizzed about the vast haul of points he will have to defend in the coming tournaments – far more than Nadal – if he is to remain number one in the rankings. "Write what you want," he glowered after a sigh, a pause and a shrug. "I’m going to try to win at the Olympics and the US Open and have a good end to the season. That’s it."

Did u guys see the press conference with Roger yeaterday..he showed so much of arrogance and he is unable to come to ground having to believe that he hasnt wont a slam this year and he is even beatable on grass. he was belittling what Rafa achieved and for every answer he starts with Pff..Pschh.. may be he played better.. on the other side Rafa is so modest before he even accepts any kind of accolades for what he achieved.. Until he realises that mentally Rafa is stronger than him he is never going to win against Rafa in finals.. well lets see this year is the year to dethrone him to no:2 atleast to mark his downfall over the next few years.. |

Nenu future gurinchi chebuthu i was mentioning the likes of those three players. Roger is the greatest player ever to have graced the court ante kalutundhi. just for this fact i keep looking at the unaccomplished facet of his career..like the career slam, olympics gold and crossing or winning atleast one slam more than pete.. I like tennis players not based on what they are achieving but based on their style of game. that said agassi's game was very close to what i relished and that followed me to like Rafa, Djokovic now. But i never used to hate Pete because i always used to cheer for him or like him when he was not playing against Agassi. Above all Pete had the best behaviour on/off court which the so called Roger was missing. |

Clarification regarding Borg: You have six French titles, five Wimbledons. In retrospect, do you regret not playing the Australian, giving yourself a shot at that title as well? I have no reason for any regrets. When I boycotted the Australian, I was trying to make a statement. I had made my mind up. My point was that a player requires some time to himself, he can't keep rushing from one court to another all the time without a break. They all heard me say that, but no one did anything about it. So I did it myself, I skipped the Australian and gave myself the time I needed. That was the only way I could think of, to do it. I have always played my tennis and lived my life on my own terms, I have no regrets. http://www.bjornborg.20m.com/news2.htm Borg chose to make the journey to the Australian Open only once, in 1974, where he lost in the third round. Borg has stated publicly that he would have attempted to complete the calendar year Grand Slam and played in the Australian Open had he succeeded in winning the first three Grand Slam tournaments of the year, which he never did. |

MP good points, one thing is for sure, he is the master of the game, achieving career grand slam or calendar grand slam needs not just the game but luck too, federer ki pedda road block rafa and I don't think he can ever get to it in the future...inka sampras ki 31 yrs vachevaraku aadaadu, roger is only 26 yrs old and he is only 2 grandslams away to break the record...lastly check ur sources bjorn borg played australian open Behold the king of lentilopolis |

I dont even understand what is making people believe that Roger is the greatest player to have ever played. By far he hasn't even achieved what Agassi has achieved that is career Grand slam. He did face players that had very limited talent in the initial year finals of the slams he won. Even Borg without even playing AUS open won as many as Roger won. Sampras is still ahead of Roger. Watch out for players like Gulbis, Djokovic and not to mention Rafa, they have loads of talent that can keep troubling Roger on a conistent basis. From where Roger is going to find the 3 slams needed to surpass Pistol Pete so that he can called the greatest as u guys r saying.. |
