Guntur: The district leadership of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is frantically looking for funding agents to organise the ‘Yuvagarjana’ public meeting which is scheduled to launch the silver screen NTR scions onto the public stage. Though the date has not been finalised yet, party chief N Chandrababu Naidu indicated that it would be held around the second week of next month. The party wants to make the meeting a grand success in order to retain the migrating cadres to other parties. “Since it is the debut public meeting of film heroes from the NTR family, namely Balakrishna, NTR junior and Kalyan Ram from the party dais, definitely it is a prestigious meeting for us,” said district party chief Prattipati Pulla Rao. He said that they were planning to mobilise at least 10 lakh people for the ‘mammoth’ meeting. The meeting, according to senior leader Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, would set the tone for the next general elections. “We are not behind anyone and in fact, we are ahead of others. People are vexed with the anarchic Congress rule and are keen that Naidu return to rule,” Kodela said. However, mobilisation of funds to organise such a big meeting has become a very big task for the district leaders with the local leaders already exhausting their resources in the four-and-half-year of opposition role. On the other hand, the industrialists who donned the party cap in the last elections too have disappeared immediately after losing the elections. Maddi Lakshmaiah of ML group, Y V Anjaneyulu of Chalapathi group, NRI Chandu Sambasivudu, tobacco baron Y V Rao are among those who are not taking active part in the party activities anymore. While Lakshmaiah contested from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha seat, YV Rao was the losing candidate from Guntur LS. Anjaneyulu, who earlier represented Sattenapalle constituency, distanced himself from the party after he was denied ticket in the last elections. Moreover, the prospects of new industrialists or business people entering the party fold too are not bright, which would make the district leadership’s job a tough one. Though, the neutral industrialists would donate funds to all parties, they would generously do it only if they think that particular party would return to power. With no clear signs emerging on the TDP returning to power, business people are too not showing any enthusiasm. Courtesy: TimesOfIndia |
