Fubar i meant the H/W from HP and IBM are cheap when compared to Sun H/W.
Solaris won't go anywhere maama, but it was badly affected by this linux growth.
Big systems and big stuff still prefer solaris.
But for entry level i think now linux is better with more oppertunities.
Also don't know what will happen to Sun.
We will know more on 30th.

ante what do you mean nandamuri mama, I am confused, do you mean the cheaper version of HP h/w like itanium, I am not in touch with IBM lately so donno if they have similiar to itanium...also solaris going nowhere mama, they have improvised a lot lately with introduction of virtualization, the only lag is that they tend to still go with third party products for basic stuff like veritas lvm manager, inka cluster whereas the two remaining big unix(AIX,Hpux) have own R&D and develop there own stuff

Rangu maama if your are already in US and u want to write those certifications then those are pretty expensive from our pocket.
If your company pays and u have time to read go ahead and write.
Both of them are good.
Solaris is good and stable but few jobs.
Linux cheap and best and more jobs.
Ee rojullo only Solaris admin or only linux admin anna no one cares.
They need both.
Front end run on Linux and may be DB's run on Solaris.
Even DB's also migrating to MySQL on Linux these days. Those are pretty big db's.
In the past clients preferred solaris on sun but now gone are those days.
Any new installs or projects they prefer cheap HP or IBM h/w and linux.
Even Oracle is endorsing Linux these days.
So gone are Sun days.
Solaris Admin days are past.
Now it is any flavor of Unix.

beer mama, I agree that few business are migrating to linux, kaani if you see the apps which have/are been migrated frm solaris, they would be mostly web-based, non-critical or when they want to go for a low cost wherein they are ok to take a hit on the downtimes, saying that I don't disagree the fact that small to mid level business do have linux running, but if you take critical apps they do not migrate to linux...bottom line chepaali ante certs gurinchi, no one cares a hoot about certs, might be added advantage wherein recruiters might pick cert against non-cert with same exp, unless you are working in product based company, or in sales wherein they might need a certain number of people who are cert'fd, cert doesn't mean a whole lot in unix world - my two cents :D

have to seriously disagree on that, solaris has some serious clients running pretty big apps on it,LINUX whichever vendor doesn't have that big clients totally dedicated to linux..I can quote many examples...but solaris cert is always better, but depends on which type of cert you are planning to take
