or go for od filename.txt annai.....octal loo chooyisthadhi file ni...preth character ki octal notation as well as some characters..

you do have access to the unix system, then use strings <filename> it will look and print only strings in the filename, that should I believe get rid of your junk chars

then put <filename>

also when i try to open in binary format using vi -b it says illegal option. what is the command for opening suing VI in binary mode
