Bomma Vit laage Unnadi...

Rating: 3/5
Banner: AVM Productions
Cast: Suriya, Tamannah, Prabhu, Akashdeep Saigal, Ponvannan, Renuka, M S Bhaskar, Jagan etc.
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Editing: Anthony
Cinematography: M S Prabhu
Director: K V Anand
Producer: A V M Saravanan, M S Guhan
Release date: 01/05/2009

Hot star Suriya has been making waves in the Telugu circuit with his performances and screen presence. Here he is coming up with a pure commercial entertainer and this time he has made it like a proper Telugu movie release since it is being released across the state with almost 50 prints and 200 theatres. How good is this film, let us have a look.

Story
Deva (Suriya) works with Das (Prabhu) and though he is a qualified Post Graduate, he excels in smuggling and is street smart to escape the customs officials and the cops. They have their rival in Kamlesh (Akashdeep) who tries to go the illegal way and get to the top in business. Meanwhile, Das’s gang is joined by Chitti (Jagan) who gets close to Deva and his sister Yamuna (Tamannah) falls in love with Deva. However, few incidents take place that lead to the death of Chitti and Das. What are the reasons for that? Does Kamlesh become the number one don? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performance
Suriya has yet again come up with an exceptional performance and though there is not much in his character, he has brought life to it with his histrionics. He has been good in the fights and dance departments.

Tamannah was there to give the regular glamour and looked compatible with Suriya, Prabhu was graceful and elegant, debutante Akashdeep was good enough and showed the evil in him aptly, Chitti was natural.

Renuka looked best suited for the role while M S Bhaskar did his bit as required.

The director did not have much to talk about when it comes to story but then the presentation was quite remarkable. The dialogues were alright, the script was written without flaws and full marks to the screenplay.

Background score was okay but the songs were moderate, cinematography was top notch and editing has done a fabulous jobs. Even the locales and the fights have been very good. Costumes were trendy and apt and the art department did a good job.

Plus Points:
Heavy research on smuggling related crimes
Cinematography
Editing
Special Effects
Action Episodes
Suriya’s performance

Minus Points:
Length (second half can be condensed up to 15 minutes)
Lack of class appeal
Lack of required humor

Analysis
Though the storyline has been quite routine, it is the slick presentation that requires mention here. Also, there is a message for the youth here about how they must not spoil their future in the greed for money. Technically, the film has been made really well but then it could have worked really well if the length of the movie was condensed.

Especially, things got really dragging during the second half. Also, there are times when the scenes tend to get very matter of fact and audience does not really feel the emotion that is being conveyed at such points.

Given the fact that this is a dubbed flick, it must be said that there are traces of Tamil flavor in the movie which may not work with the Telugu audience here. Though there is not much for the class audience here due to lack of depth and theme, the mass will surely get appealed. Also the glamour presence of Tamannah and the item song of Koena caused some sizzle which can be relished. Though the pace was quite healthy, it is the attempt to drag the movie to a great extent trying to complete all phases that has gone against the film. Overall, it is a one time watch for its technical aspects and of course Suriya.
