Gauhati: An Indian Air Force transport plane with 12 troops on board was missing in the country's remote northeast on Tuesday, a spokesman said. The Soviet-made AN-32 was believed to have crashed, and the fate of those traveling by it was not immediately known, said Ranjit Sahu, an air force spokesman. Weather was normal when the plane took off from a remote air base in Arunachal Pradesh state. It was flying to another air force station at Jorhat in Assam state, Sahu told The Associated Press. The aircraft went missing without any communication from its crew to the air traffic control, he said. Those on board were air force and army personnel, Sahu said. Air force helicopters scoured the mountainous area, but could not locate the plane. The search will resume on Wednesday, Sahu said. The Indian air force has been plagued by frequent crashes, particularly among its aging Soviet-made MiG fighter aircraft. New politics for a New Generation -
