I did not mean the as they realted to the symbol - I apologize for teh confusion. I meant to say 20% solid vote bank vunte - as Parkala states - PRP is much more powerful than what we are discussing. They might not want as many - but will throw a wrench and disrupt the mechanics in various places.

Another recent development is the logic that they are using in the petition with Supreme Court is as follows ( in the words of PRP spokesperson Parakala)- "PRP has a registered membership of 20% of the state electorate" and hence it can be interpreted as meeting/exceeding the requirement of 7% electorate.
Either - way if they really have 20% of the state electorate as registered members - there are various implications - I will tryt to discuss them in my next post.

Vijayakanth floated DMDK and contested the assembly election in 2006 and won 9% of the vote and satisfied the first condition but he just won one assembly seat and did not meet the minimum requirement of atleast 2 seats.
He asked for a common symbol AFTER the aforementioned election happened - so his case was different.
His logic was also contesting the scientific definition of winiing an election.
Simple gaa cheppali ante if
Consider TWO candidates :
a) Candidate A from a NEW PARTY with no COMMON symbol
b)Candidate B form an established PARTY with a COMMON symbol.
Assume that they are contesting in a constituency of 100 people (100%) if only 5 people exercised their vote (5% - which is less than the EC mandated 7%) and Candidate A secured 3 votes and Candidate B secured 2 votes - according to the current EC provisions Candidate A will win the election by simple majority and become an MLA without having bet the 7% requirement.
Some in the apex court bought his argument.
Inkkada PRP case lo asalu local body or assembly elections lo contest ee cheyyaledu therefore apples and oranges.

Another interesting observation is that EC guidelines are not enacted laws - but "generally accepted practices". That is the only challenge that PRP CAN present to the court.
PRP is currently claiming to be violation of Fundamental rights - an argument that will be duly dismissed - part of the reason they preempted the process with withdrawal.
Another claim that TRS was allotted a common symbol - will be justified by the EC - because they were initially not granted a common symbol and met the obligations of the "State Recognized Party" by contesting in local body elections and assembly bi elections before the EC reconsidered their request and granted them a symbol.
In short - they would have been better of continuously requesting the EC until they yielded as they have done many times in the past to various parties - as opposed them to taking them to task in the court of law and forcing them to defend their conventional/traditional actions.

My understanding is that the interpretation of the law is that if you do not contest under a common sybol as a "state recognized party" you are treated as "independents" for all practical purposes.

The crisis caused by the Praja Rajyam not getting a symbol is so intense that its founder president Chiranjeevi will have to resign and join the party whose symbol it wants to use for all its candidates
"Chiranjeevi cannot issue B-form of any other party while continuing as president of PR, which is only a registered party and not recognised," EC sources said
In such an event, it will be essential for Chiranjeevi to take over as state party president, if not the entire party, and issue B forms for his candidates to have control over the candidates in the post poll scenario
As a last effort, the party on Thursday approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the EC to allot a common symbol for the party

Good obeservation - As far as my reading goes -I think the National Party bearing the symbol has the choice to excercise its right. It could choose to contest as regional outfit in multiple states and be treated as local party and all rules that apply to local regional parties apply. Alternatively - it could choose to contest in all states by VIRTUE of being a National party - as it is doing in Mumbai and TN ( as per their official website).

The crisis caused by the Praja Rajyam not getting a symbol is so intense that its founder president Chiranjeevi will have to resign and join the party whose symbol it wants to use for all its candidates
"Chiranjeevi cannot issue B-form of any other party while continuing as president of PR, which is only a registered party and not recognised," EC sources said
In such an event, it will be essential for Chiranjeevi to take over as state party president, if not the entire party, and issue B forms for his candidates to have control over the candidates in the post poll scenario
As a last effort, the party on Thursday approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the EC to allot a common symbol for the party
