this was remade from Mohanlal starrer chitram. Initially it was planned with Balayya in Priyan's direction (by the producers who made gAnDIvam) and MB also planned a movie with Balayya (there was a full sheet ad in Andhrajyothy daily for Balayya's Birthday after Muddula Mavayya). Balayya talked to his producers and have them give the rights to MB (As Balayya's dates were not available for more than one year and also since he was already working on a remake of Mohanlal's Aryan (Asoka Chakravarthy), he advised MB to make a movie with himself as the hero instead of waiting for one year). KRR agreed to direct the movie for free and MB made the movie with 45 lakhsand the got more than doublein returns. MB himself told in the 100days function (didn't mention the details but conveyed his thanks to Balayya) about KRR's generosity with tears in his eyes (said "nA bhArya nagalu tAkaTTU peTTi teesAnu. sOdaruDu rAghavEndra rao naya paisA teesukOkunDA chEsADu ani Saibaba locket unna golusu okaTi KRR meDalO vEsADu"). later the producers who were supposed to make that movie with bAlayya, made gAnDIvam in Priyan's direction with bAlayya..
