The Congress party is trying to find excuses to defer the local body elections in the wake of the recent debacle in the Kadapa by-elections. And it has got one.

Ever since the State Election Commission announced that it was fully prepared to hold the local body elections in July and that the schedule was getting ready, the Congress party in the state are very much worried.

For, the party would have to face a disastrous situation if there is a Kadapa-like result in the local body elections. And that would complete erode the party base in the districts.

That is the reason why the Congress party is hoping that there would be large scale agitation for separate Telangana statehood in the month of June, which might go on for another three or four months.

In the pretext of tackling the agitation and prevent law order breakdown, the government might go in for persons-in-charge rule in the local bodies for another six months.

After allowing the agitation to precipitate, it might take some decision on the Telangana, so that it would have some breathing time to recoup in both the regions. Who knows, the Congress leadership might even woo Jagan back into the party fold by that time.

Now that it is more or less certain that senior Telugu Desam Party legislator Nagam Janardhan Reddy is going to be kicked out of the party for his open defiance of the party leadership on the Telangana issue, a curious discussions is going on in the political circles as to what his next move would be.

According to sources close to Nagam, he has already started his plans to launch his own political outfit in the name of “Telangana Desam Party,” whose acronym also would be TDP. The formalities for launching the political party are being worked out and once his expulsion is formalized, he would intensify his plans, sources said.

Along with Nagam, the TDP workers from Nagarkurnool would move into the new party lock, stock and barrel. Initially, at least three or four MLAs would join him. Once the party gets going, Nagam will plan a padayatra across Telangana, sources said.
