Ramu:Also PIO card holders can not become Indian citizens
idhi thappanukuntaa agrajaa....once they are 18, they can apply for Indian citizenship based on conditions like they should have been living in India for more then 5yrs etc...but ofcourse they need to hand over their US passport to become indian citizens...

tamaru vinnadi nijamE...
that is one of the differences of PIO and OCI cards. Also PIO card holders can not become Indian citizens where as OCI card holders if they live in India for a certain amount of time and 5 years after getting the OCI card can become Indian citizens again. PIO card has to be renewed where as OCI doesn't have any expiration date..

Fubar:Foreigners visiting India on any other category of long-term visa which is valid for more than 180 days, are required to register only if they intend to stay in India for more than 180 days continuously during a particular visit. This registration can be done anytime within 180 days of arrival in India.

Whether every foreigner is required to be registered?
Registration is required for a foreigner who enters India on a long term (visa valid for more than 180 days) STUDENT (Including those who come for study of yoga/Vedic culture/Indian system of dance and music), RESEARCH .EMPLOYMENT, MISSIONARY AND MEDICAL AND MEDICAL ATTENDANT VISA within 14 days of his/her first arrival in India.
Foreigners visiting India on other categories of long term VISA including Business VISA would not require registration if he/she does not intend to stay in India for more than 180 days on each visit. If he intends to stay for more than 180 days on a single visit, he should get himself registered well before the expiry of 180 days.
Pakistan Nationals are required to register within 24 hours and Afghanistan Nationals are required to register within 7 days of their arrival in India. Children below 16 years of age do not require Registration, on any type of VISA.

Question 1: Whether every foreigner is required to be registered?
Answer: No. Foreigners visiting India on any short-term visa i.e. valid upto 180 days or less are not required to register. Children below 16 years of age visiting India on any type of visa of any duration are also not required to register.
The following two categories of foreigners are required to register: -(i) Foreigners entering India on a Student, Employment, Research or Missionary visa, which is valid for more than 180 days, are required to register with the FRRO/FRO/CHIO within 14 days of their arrival in India.
(ii) Foreigners visiting India on any other category of long-term visa which is valid for more than 180 days, are required to register only if they intend to stay in India for more than 180 days continuously during a particular visit. This registration can be done anytime within 180 days of arrival in India.
