New Delhi: BCCI is a wife and players her henpecked husbands. She is a homemaker. Husbands go out, earn, but she is the bank's only authorised signatory.
One day, the wife finds a new job for some of them in a company called IPL; a job that didn't warrant leaving the current one. They readily join and discover its allure. Play for two months, fool around for the remaining 10, but the job is secure for three years: the terms were engaging.
But in their merry - and money-making for those two months, the husbands lost sight of the bigger picture. They forgot about their 'primary employer', the experience and performance with whom allowed them to fill their wife's coffers.
However, there isn't a wife who would complain? She now has an air conditioner instead of a cooler, the parlours wait for her tip-heavy arrival and the cars are driven to her orders. Bossing around just got better for her!
The husbands, too, didn't object and gave everything to the IPL. And while their time to return to the old job drew closer, cracks started appearing in their body. Two went down to shoulder injury, one caught lung infection and a couple of them requested the wife for rest.
Easy money-making had started taking its toll. But to onlookers' utter dismay, not even a fold of repent appeared, neither on the forehead of husbands nor the wife.
Meanwhile, the 'primary employer' kept waiting for his once honest staffers, whose loyalty – it seems – had kneeled down to a divisive wife.
Though well informed about the duty roster, that they need to travel to the West Indies for work, they decided to risk overload. While some survived to tour the Caribbean, some will join late and some will give it a miss.
Spare a thought for the poor 'primary employer'; her name is INDIA, who treated her staff like her sons, thought they wear their heart on sleeve for her but never knew that the marriage to the BCCI will make them disloyal. Still, nobody's complaining. Ahem!
