ప్రధానంగా రెండు సంఘటనలను లెలె ఈ పుస్తకంలో ప్రస్తావించాడు. ముంబైకే చెందిన లెఫ్టార్మ్ స్పిన్నర్ నీలేశ్ కులకర్ణి ఏ స్థాయిలో వికెట్లు తీశాడో తెలీకుండానే ఒకరి సలహా విని దక్షిణాఫ్రికాతో జరిగే టెస్టు కోసం సెలక్షన్ కమిటీ ముందు అతని పేరు ప్రతిపాదించాడు. అయితే కమిటీ చైర్మన్ కిషన్ రుంగ్తా... కులకర్ణి అసలు రంజీ మ్యాచ్‌లే ఆడలేదని, ముంబై జట్టులో స్థానం కోల్పోయాడని సచిన్‌కు గుర్తు చేయాల్సి వచ్చింది. ఇక 2000లో సొంతగడ్డపై దక్షిణాఫ్రికాతో జరిగిన టెస్టు సిరీస్‌లో తొలి మ్యాచ్ ఓడిపోవటంపై విమర్శలు చెలరేగాయి. దాంతో మరో టెస్టు మిగిలి ఉండగానే ఇక చాలు అంటూ కెప్టెన్సీనుంచి రాజీనామా చేసేందుకు సిద్ధమయ్యాడు. సిరీస్ మధ్యలో ఇలా చేయవద్దంటూ లెలెతో సహా పలువురు నచ్చజెప్పినా అతను ఒప్పుకోలేదు. చివరకు వారందరూ సచిన్ భార్య అంజలిని ఆశ్రయించారు. దాంతో ఆ సిరీస్ ముగిసే వరకూ సచిన్ కొనసాగాడు. |
