Heroine Genelia found herself in soup after a Hyderabad court order directed the police to register an FIR against her and five others in connection with a land scam of around Rs 250 crores.
The court order came after one of the victims, Tirupataiah, filed a complaint stating that Genelia is the brand ambassador and also one of the directors of a real estate firm.
Tirupataiah alleged that the actor made false promises through ads and brochures and directly cooperated with the accused in grabbing his and others` hard-earned money. A total of 500 plots were sold by the firm.
The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) directed the cops to inquire into the issue and submit a report on or before March 27.
It was alleged that the developers used Genelia`s name and credibility to urge Tirupataiah to buy plots in a venture at Kalvakol village of Maheswarammandal located in the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Accordingly, he paid Rs 54 lakhs in December 2008, to obtain the property for his son and daughter-in-law. Later, he did not get any response from the firm when he wanted to go in for registration. He found that the office was closed and the people absconding.
