Mori is playing a 30-year-old gold-digger in Las Vegas, and the movie expects us to believe that she's a virgin and to believe that he would believe it, too. Go ahead and laugh, but that unreleased sexual energy is what fuels everything worth seeing in the movie. It's what's behind the near-hysterical romanticism of the musical passages and the wordless interludes. Because there's no sex in "Kites," the songs are the sex, and there's not a drop of cynicism in any one of them. It's all pure, all loving, all a matter of life and death, just the way you felt when you were a teenager.
This is opera. This is the big stuff, folks. This is a choir, a drum machine, a synthesizer, a 17-piece orchestra and an echo chamber all screaming "Love! Love! Love!" Go in smirking, but by the time it's over, you'll believe.

I am not speaking about the Indians in America. Nor am I in America.
But I went to the Rottentomatoes site (for those who dont know, its where teh review of all Hollywood movies from all top critics in USA are posted) and found that 86% critics rated it good.
They all said that the lead pair are so beautiful that you forget the blatant errors and unbelievable story of the movie. Critics of New York Times, L.A. Times etc are saying that Hrithik is unbelievably handsome, and has acted properly for his role.
I read the review in rediff too, where they said its an utter disaster. May be the Americans liked teh freshness of watching a Bollywood movie, like how Slumdog succeeded with a Bollywood-like story.. |

Kites, starring Hrithik Roshan [ Images ] and Mexican star Barbara Mori [ Images ], has become the first Bollywood film to debut in the North American top ten on opening weekend.
According to studio estimates, the film has landed the tenth spot after raking in 952,682 dollars.
Shrek Forever After has, however, topped the weekend box office after raking in 71.3 million dollars.
Iron Man 2 landed the second spot with 26.6 million dollars.
Robin Hood came third with 18.7 million dollars while 'Letters To Juliet' stood fourth with 9.1 million dollars.
Just Wright rounded off the top five with 4.2 million dollars, reports E! Online.
The top ten are:
1. Shrek Forever After, $71.3 million
2. Iron Man 2, $26.6 million
3. Robin Hood, $18.7 million
4. Letters to Juliet, $9.1 million
5. Just Wright, $4.2 million
6. MacGruber, $4.1 million
