I know it is a bit late in the day for a review or to talk about a movie released 2 weeks back. Having said that, this is not a review.
The movie in topic is Komaram Puli. And I was particularly following its reviews on the net. And by doing so added up to the google count for the movie review search. Which I hear was a record. Among all the negative talk the movie drew, I couldnt help noticing one particular part of the criticism, which was specially highlighted as a major drawback, which was about a mother giving birth to a child under water. Which many Internet reviews claimed as funny and silly.
I really began to wonder about the quality of our electronic media at times. Water birth is a tried and tested formula since the sixties. Particularly in the west. The main purpose of undergoing this type of birth is to reduce pain.
As many would be aware or unaware, among the levels of pain among humans, labour or birth pain ranks as the most severe. Followed by the pain associated with root canal treatment of the teeth. If one has undergone root canal, and experienced the pain associated with it, then one can estimate the pains associated with giving birth, which is said and confirmed to be more then root canal. Water is said to absorb pain and control bleeding.
Many women who have experienced Water Birth have spoken positively about the experience. Ofcourse there are the scientific sceptics of this method, who do have their counter arguments. But the point is, this was a scene in the movie which was supposed to highlight the plight of a mother while giving birth to her child under unnatural circumstances.
After witnessing since ages, our Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood mothers giving birth in barns, moving trains, planes, before tigers and snakes, in caves, melas, etc, and then loosing the babies or atleast one of them immediately, this scene would seem a welcome break.
Seems the director had got his investigative facts correct about the fact of a pregnant mother being subjected to an unatural birth, which was under water. Which he wanted to show in his movie.
But, our electronic media, specially some biased websites, defintely were caught on the wrong foot about their lack of knowledge about this subject.
