Some good news first. The cotton candy actor is back on screen after three long years and the bad news is we are afraid you got to survive on Athadu, Pokiri and Murari re–runs for the next one year. Infact even Sainikudu will do, it's not that bad after all. Mahesh Babu looks smashing as ever but to complete a film atleast a handful of artistes and technicians are imperative and all of them come up with superficial performances.
Here Mahesh despite doing away with bending his head down or brushing his nose with his finger or eating his words, and actually walking with his chin up, Mahesh Khaleja falls flat. Let's get it right, the major flaw of the film is the heroine (Anushka). She is tall, old for the hero and has absolutely blank expressions, cannot act, has a limited range and the chemistry is between the pair is zilch.
And the story? With a fifty crore input does the script have it's Khaleja in the right place? It pops, skips and jumps all over and most of the time doesn't move. There are times when you want to plead to Raju, the cab driver who is considered God by the villagers to make this film work but all he does is get sucked into a story that is conventional, dreary and embellished with mediocre music.
Mahesh Khaleja is about a cab driver who lands in a village beset with misfortune and looks upon him as a divine power. A confused yet compelling Raju embarks on a journey to unravel the mystery. There is nothing different or special that Trivikram hasn't attempted before infact he flounders as a writer and fails to lift Mahesh's talent a little more, drag and push him that extra inch even with an experience of working with him earlier.
There is too much violence, lackluster romance and dialogues fail to excite you. The only saving grace is the hero who despite three long years looks fresh but sadly is not exploited well. If you take pleasure in just staring at the hero for his winsome smiles, dances, some comic acts, do grab a ticket but if you are looking for some wholesome entertainment or something remotely closer to it, like clarity, resonance in the story, just scroll above for the titles of the film.
