Is it worth the wait?
Totally. Appude interval ochesindaa...appude ayipoyindaa ani feel avutaam. Great story, great characters and very gripping narration. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Cant wait for the second part.
Is there really something extraordinary about the Paritala Ravi's story that Varma was compelled to make a movie about it?
Yes. If a rebel could rise to become a minister in the state govt, definitely some extraordinary incidents might have happened and that is the story of Rakta Charitra. Gun power, Political power and Star power. All these 3 collide and that lead to some interesting and dramatic events
There are no villians. Everyone is right from their perspective. Is this statement of Varma true?
No. There are good guys and bad guys in the movie. You can not find even a single fault with Paritala Ravi. His every action is justified. In the end when you see RC-II trailer in which Suri pledges to take revenge, you leave the theatre wondering what could have Ravi done to him.
Obul Reddy and his family were shown in bad light. They are the bad guys. There are no gray shades. Everything is in black and white.
One possible reason might be that RC-I is narrated from Ravi's point of view therefore by design we are supposed to feel Ravi is a hero.
Is the movie really violent?
It doesn't matter. The movie will capture your attention and keep you engaged right from the beginning. You will not have space to think and form opinion about violence as if it is a separate entity.
Are 2 parts really required?
No, if you have time to sit through the whole 5 hours. RC-I and RC-II are not like Meet the Parents I&II or Kill Bill I&II where each part has its own logical ending.
RC-I ends abruptly. Its like having a biig interval of 1 month in the middle of the movie
What if this was not advertised as real story? Will it still be this effective?
No. If this is not a real story, for the most part it is only a well made revenge drama. The only distinguishing part of the story is Obul Reddy planting bombs in NTR's meeting and NTR hand picking Ravi to use him against Obul Reddy.
Is this a straight movie or dubbing movie?
Partly straight, partly dubbing. In close up shots, everyone speaks in telugu clearly. For most part they dont. The voices used for dubbing and BGM sounded artificial sometimes. May be hindi audience will enjoy the movie better. But they will not have our perspective. Proper telugu cinema la teesi unte ekkadikooo velledi
Varma claims that this is his best work till date. Is it true?
We can come to a conclusion only after watching RC-II. If you consider RC-I as separate movie, its one of his best if not THE BEST. Its much better than Sarkar and comparable to Company. People who watched Hindi version will be able to judge better. Some shots are really superb. |

Ramgopal Varma is known for dark and gritty cinema and RAKHT CHARITRA is not just the film-maker's, but also Hindi cinema's most violent film so far. Be forewarned, RAKHT CHARITRA is not for the lily-livered. Nor is it for those who love to visit cineplexes with their families, weekend after weekend, to watch that perfect family film. This one has just one song [not needed, actually], no romance, no comedy/humour, no phoren locations, no good looking faces, no family gatherings and no striking sets that are mandatory for escapist cinema. RGV is a rebel, he likes to make movies he believes in and RAKHT CHARITRA proves it yet again.
