As the media is abuzz with news that Mahesh Babu will star in a movie directed by Mani Ratnam, 123telugu.com brings more news for you. Tamil Actor Vikram is also expected to star in this film, which will be produced by Sun Pictures. They had recently produced the Rs.150 crore film Robo!
The movie is said to be based on the Tamil Novel Ponniyin Selvan, a fictional novel based on the 10th century history of Tamil Nadu. Mahesh Babu is rumored to play the role of the hero, Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan. The character, which Mahesh is set to play, is an attractive and an adventurous man, who has the responsibility of bringing Prince Arulmozhivarman back from a war, to make him the Emperor! Vikram plays the role of Arulmozhi Varman (later known as Raja Raja Chola)! It is heard that Tamil writer Jeya Mohan had been approached to write the screenplay. Jeya Mohan has written movies like Naan Kadavul (Nene Devunni), Angaadi Theru (Shopping Mall) and also has few mythological novels to his name! Obviously this movie will be made as a bi-lingual in Tamil and Telugu.
The movie, has generated more interest right from the start becasue of its subject matter and probably needs more budget than a film like Robo! This will probably be the first film in India that deals elaborately with the history of South India!
In the mean time, few have aired their doubts, wondering if Mani Ratnam can manage a film of this magnitude after his debacle called Raavanan (Villain in Telugu). There are others who argue that Mani Ratnam is the right choice as he is probably amongst the few directors of India, who has the intellectual and philosophical capability to do such a film. How this will all turn out only time should tell.

Ponniyin Selvan (Tamil: பொன்னியின் செல்வன், "The Son of Ponni") is a famous 2400 page 20th-century Tamil historical novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Written in 5 volumes, this narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman (later crowned as Rajaraja Chola - one of the Greatest Kings in Tamil history who ruled in the 10th - 11th century AD).
Ponniyin Selvan is widely regarded as the greatest novel ever written in Tamil. It deals with the fortunes of the Chola empire during the 10th century. It was serialised in the Tamil periodical Kalki. The serialisation went on for three and a half years and every week its publication was awaited with great interest.
This novel was first published, as chapters in the Tamil weekly Kalki for about 3.5 years during the 1950s. Considering the huge popularity of the book and the author this novel was Nationalized by the Government of Tamil Nadu and is available as an open source for anyone to publish. |

News breaking today tat Mahesh-Maniratnam film is based on historical novel Ponniyan Selvan by Kalki..It will be a bilingual in telugu tamil. Mahesh plays the role of charming soldier who does job of rescuing a king back to his kingdom..and tat king role is by Vikram..ophoo so much...There will be a host of beautiful ladies at diff parts in movie..and Mahesh character drives the entire movie,most characters r met thru him ..Mani reportedly penned script in 80 scenes nd news coming now is tat this big budget is produced by Sun Pictures in assoc wit Madras talkies ..This will surely be the most defining film in Mahesh's career. |
