Vijayawada, Dec. 21: While MLAs and MLCs from far away places like Rayalaseema, Telanga-na and Andhra regions visited the ‘Lakshya Deeksha’ and extended their support to the 48-hour fast launched by the former MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Kr-ishna river bed on Tuesday, the Congress MLAs from Krishna and Guntur districts did not visit the camp to extend their solidarity.
It was assumed that at least one MLA from Krishna district would visit the fast camp and extend his support to Mr Jagan, but Congress leaders from these two districts remained unmoved and did not come out openly to support him.
Mr Jagan had extensively toured Diviseema region in two districts two weeks ago and met the farmers before launching the fast.
Mr Jagan’s supporters are claiming that at least 24 MLAs visited the city to extended solidarity. But, on-ly a handful MLAs appeared on the dais. Ms Konda Surekha, Mr Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Mr Balineni Srinivas Reddy, Ms Jayasudha and some others from Rayalaseema were seen.
More than 70,000 supporters mostly youth and farmers attended the fast camp launched by Jagan on Tuesday night. The police posted tight security at the venue and a large number of barricades were erected to control the supporters visiting the venue since afternoon.
Meanwhile, Ms Konda Surekha, actress Jeevitha, Jayasudha, B Karunakar Reddy recalled the achievements of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and emphasised the need for giving support to Mr Jagan to fulfil the aspirations of his father.
The speakers lashed out at the present Congress government and the TD alleging that the two parties failed to address the farmers’ problems in the state. Despite the chilly weather, several thousands of people from different parts of state visited the camp.
Several hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the national highways passing towards Chennai, Hyderabad due to the traffic congestion on the first day of the protest.
The police tried to regulate the traffic but in vain because a large number of vehicles from different parts of the state are coming to the city.
