Gaali saru, Atheist who say there is no god and Agnostics who are somewhere between there is god, there is no god, very true one type of cults. I believe this cult came when they are not convinced by the very fact that GOD exists with whatever material exists to say that there is GOD. I have seen some people who were theists, became atheist eventually, ( kamal hasan types ). The very reason is that they were not convinced with their intellect, questioning, reasoning that GOD exists, what ever is happening has no relation to GOD and its fine. Sanatana Dharma unlike christianity or Islam which has bible or Quran as reference, is based on experience. One who cannot experience cannot believe. So the people have evolved over a period of time to become Atheist and Agnostics. Agnostics due to family background or some other reasons, are most confused unlike the other two categories, who cannot be convinced either way. All these categories should and will exists, until people try to explore and understand the mysteries of life and connect the dots. There is enough material to connect these dots, but it takes lot of effort, So people who believe in their intellect will not put this effort and leave as what they are. I believe being theist due to family background is also not correct. Belief in Sanatana Dharma should be based on experience.
