In my college days in Varanasi it was raining heavily outside and our mess was off. Me and my friends ordered food from a nearby restaurant. A very young boy brought the food. He was shabbily dressed signifying his poor financial condition.

He was just a child and so I couldn't restrain myself from asking about him.

Me : hey what's your age?
He: 14 years
Me: how much do you earn?
He: Rs. 1500 / month
Me: And what about food and your clothes?
He: the owner provides little food and clothes when they are torn off.
Me: do you study also?
He: No, I don't have time to study. My parents live in Bihar, they have send me here to work. They want me to work and not study.
Me: what do you do then of the money you earn?
He: I have a younger brother of 7 years at home. I fund his education. If I don't, my parents will force him also to work and he too will remain uneducated. (he kept on getting emotional and was not able to speak properly)
Me: If you want to learn, you can come to me, I will teach you if you want.
He (with tears in his eyes): No, my owner wouldn't permit me, he engages me with work always..
he was highly emotional, wasn't able to talk and left very fast after that.

Me and my friends stood helpless without uttering a word and just watched him run away.

This incident is still afresh in my mind. It has transformed me as a person. I realized the sacrifice he's making at such a younger age and we have become so selfish in our life. We can find two brothers fighting each other always. Also, earlier I never thought of the society, but today I really want to contribute to our nation and be the helping hand in bringing smile on such faces.

Legends are not born, they are made.

11pm..On my way back to Kharagpur from Kolkata in a local train, there was a very unique couple. Both were holding each others hands the entire journey. Fearless. Confident. BLIND. There are more than 20 stations in the 100 km local train journey. How do normal people identify the correct station? We check the time. We see the current station. They trusted each other. On seeing them I was urged to ask them "dada, kause station jana hai aapko(Which station you want to go?)"..reply "Balichak". A sense of alarm went inside me .The station had passed already. I told them so. The calmness on the face, the trust in their eyes was noteworthy.Without any fear or anything, they deboarded the train on the next station and happily struggled their way out.

Now, just an introspection, how much percentage of the day do we remain calm. Like for me its hardly 10-15%. We worry about placements, internships, salaries, foreign trips and what not. But some people have a totally different sphere of difficulties. Our worries would be like "lol" to them. They have a crisis of existence and we worry about the comforts. A very popular video on youtube which depicts the necessities of the third world country kids and the what the kids of the developed countries complain about would tell the different. I thanked SOMEONE for my comforts.

If there was a conversation between us on the topic what one complains of in life, mine would be that my girlfriend left me. They would be like "wtf, we are alone blind at 11 pm at an unknown station, girlfriend would be the last thing to worry about".

I went to Boston in February. Was spending my money on food like anything.Full freedom. A lady comes in the cafe, orders a coffee. Then timidly orders a doughnut only to cancel it. "NO, Sorry, its too costly for me". I wasn't expecting this. People worry about the price before eating a basic meal. I thanked SOMEONE for my freedom.

In the end, its a lot of freedom some people enjoy due to monetary powers, while others are highly bound. Some people can complain not having a smart goggles, some about eyes.

Stay humble.Stay cool. Life has its lessons.

It was a long time since I'd been to Kolkata and I'd planned to visit my cousins at Kolkata during the weekend. I arrived at the Kharagpur railway station and since the local trains to Howrah were frequent and I was in no hurry, I decided to grab a bite outside the railway station. I saw a vendor making some hot puris and my hunger drove me towards it. As I gorged on the puris, I noticed a young boy with a little girl standing near the vendor and staring at the puris. Their clothes were dirty and torn, and I could make out that were not so well off. The boy tugged at a man having puris saying ''uncle, humko puri khilauge? (uncle, can you get us a plate of puri?). The man shooed them off and continued to eat.

I asked the vendor to give the boy and the girl a plate of puri each. The boy's eyes lit up and he thanked me. I sat with them and began to converse.

Me: What are your names?
He: Dada, I'm Tapan and this is Pranitha, my sister.
Me: I'm Niladri. You both study? [In Bengali]
Tapan (with a big smile): I study in 9th standard and my sister studies in 7th.
Me: That's great! Where do you stay and what do your parents do?
Tapan: Dada, we stay near IIT. My father drives a rickshaw and my mother stays at home to look after us.
Me: IIT is around 5 km away from here. What are you doing here in the morning?
Pranitha: Dada, the financial condition at home is not good since the last few days. Baba (dad) has to work the whole day because he has to earn while ma (mom) is at home as she is not well. So since we don't have enough money at home, baba dropped us here so that we could beg for food from someone.
[When she used the word 'beg', my eyes were moist and I decided to give them some money]. At this juncture, I noticed the following:
They were sharing a plate of puri (one plate has 2 puris) while the other plate was kept untouched. When I asked them the reason, they said that they will take the other plate for their parents.
Tapan let his sister have more. I'm sure he did this because she was younger.
I immediately ordered two more plates for their parents. This made them more happy. The vendor smiled and said:

"God bless you son. There are many such poor people in Kharagpur and very few people care to show them any sort of concern. Your attitude will take you places''

[I thanked him for his kind words and resumed my conversation with Tapan and Pranitha]

Me: Tapan, Pranitha...what do you want to do in life?

Tapan: Dada, I want to become a doctor and Pranitha wants to become an engineer. We live near IIT and have heard that it is one of the best colleges. When we see IIT students, we get inspired to work harder and become successful in life. Our parents support us a lot.

[I was literally dumbstruck. His words inspired me and they won my respect. I was in awe of these little kids.I took out a thousand rupees which I'd kept to buy something for my cousins and gave it to them. They hugged me tightly and thanked me. I waited with them for another 10 minutes at the end of which their father came. I appreciated him and assured him that his kids would scale great heights provided he keeps supporting them. He thanked me for everything and assured me of the same].

Pranitha: Dada, what do you do?
Me: I study at IIT.
[They grinned and hugged me again].

Pranitha (to Tapan): See dada, we are getting inspired from the right place!

I was stunned by the maturity of her words at such a young age. I bid them farewell and went into the station to catch my train.
I reflected upon what had transpired between me and them during the course of my journey to Howrah. I had tears in my eyes and people were staring at me.

But that didn't matter.
What mattered was the care which Tapan showed for his little sister.
What mattered was the love and concern which these kids showed for their parents.
What mattered was their dreams and their zeal to achieve them.
What mattered was the support their parents provided.
What mattered was a father who wanted his daughter to follow her dreams rather than get her married off.
What mattered was the spirit and resolve of these two young poverty struck kids who didn't let their condition get into the way of their dreams.
What mattered was the smile on the faces of those two kids.
What mattered was the plight of scores of children in our country who are often deprived of any chance of education or are not provided the means to purse their dreams and aspirations.

First of all credits to Village_buddy of SBDB for sharing this...

The below are not my posts. Bavunnay ani sharing !

Source : Quora

This incident really changed my perception towards life.

I work for a non-profit organization which work for welfare of under privileged children. One day when we were sitting with kids for a session, it happened that one of the kids started to share his life story with us.

He was around five when this incident happened. His father was a drunkard and he used to harass his mother almost everyday. Fed up of this, one day his mother committed suicide. That day when the father came home, he was broken to see his wife dead. He felt he was responsible for the mishap, left home fully drunk and was hit by a lorry, leaving the boy and the boy's younger sister alone in this world. What was heart breaking is that these kids don't even know their names when their parents expired.

Now coming back to the story, the boy loved his sister. He resorted to begging to satiate his sister's hunger. One day when they were on road, the boy had to cross the giant highway road to visit the restaurant to beg. He wasn't old enough to carry the child with him. What he could do was to leave his sister aside, cross the road, get back something to eat. He isn't matured enough to know the consequences of that act. And the fate was against him once again. He left the child at a corner, crossed the road to get something and by the time he looked back, the child started running on road only to be hit by a vehicle. She was spot dead [frown]. The boy cried until he was empty and he is left to live his life on his own.

He was adopted by an orphanage where he gave himself a name. He was later adopted by a family which added to his woes. They adopted him only because the boy would help them with their household chores. Fed up of all this, he ran away from the place, joined another orphanage and started studying in a government school.

All our hearts sank when we heard this story. And what he said was just flabbergasting. These were his words- "When our people die, we cry. What's the point in crying? They won't come back anyway. All that we should do is that focus on what we want in lives and achieve it."
This is really something astonishing for a boy of 12 to say. And here we are, living in luxuries, yet not happy with what we have. From that day, I really decided not to complain about my life and face whatever may come.
