in this age 90% dont know their pravara, saakha and sutra anymore.. Because the mode of education has changed.
The pravara is required for few vedic karmas to start with upanayanam being one of them.. ( Thread ceremony ). When one goes for Bhiksha, they introduce themselves and ask for bhiksha.

Then Harish shankar name, ahambhoh abhivadaye.

Any person when they introduce themselves they give the Rishi Descent, which is called pravara..
Apart from Pravara, they would say their gotra, then the vedic saakha they are learning, which sutra they belong to.. to introduce themselves to others

In Chamakam the lines end with "Cha mE" so called chamakam
Similarly Namakam, the lines end with "Nama"
