హైదరాబాద్: సోనియా గాంధీకి జీవితాంతం రుణపడి ఉంటానని టీఆర్ఎస్ అధినేత కేసీఆర్ అన్నారు. తెలంగాణభవన్ లో ఏర్పాటు నిర్వహించిన పోలిట్ బ్యూరో సమావేశమనంతరం కేసీఆర్ మీడియాతో మాట్లాడుతూ.. ఒకవేళ రాహుల్ గాంధీ ప్రధాని అయ్యే అవకాశాలుంటే యూపీఏకు మద్దతిస్తానని కేసీఆర్ తెలిపారు. సోనియాగాంధీ చొరవ చూపడం కారణంగానే తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ఏర్పాటు సాధ్యమైందన్నారు.

Hyderabad: In the wake of a ‘hung Assembly’ predictions in Telangana it seems Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah is trying to woo likeminded parties to win their support, if necessary, to form the first government in Telangana state. Mr Lakshmaiah and the other Congress leaders met MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and CPI state secretary K. Narayana on Wednesday and sought their support to form the government in Telangana, if necessary. But, according to sources both leaders did not offer any assurances to the Congress leaders.
Both party leaders preferred to adopt a wait-and-watch policy. Meanwhile, in the discussions with MIM Chief Mr Asaduddin said to have raised some issues regarding problems of the Old City with Telangana PCC president. Development of old city, drinking water supply to old city, and Communal Harmony Bill and other issues asked Owaisi. On Thursday Telangana PCC President Ponnala Laxmaiah responded to Owaisi in writing to the issues raised by him.
With regard to the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's package for the development of the Old City development, Ponnala in his letter said the issue has been discussed with the officials of the concerned four department and will get a report on all the projects proposed and its current status. The status of Krishna Phase III and old city requirements were discussed with the concerned officials Konda Reddy chief general manager Water Works.
Ponnala assured Owaisi that the total water requirement of the Old City will be met by Krishna waters. He said five reservoirs with 2MGD capacity will provided the water. Regarding Prevention of Hatred and preserving communal Harmony Bill, discussed with Professor Zia, Justice Siddiqui, Delhi High Court and Niiyaz Farooqui, Supreme Court lawyer, about the Bill, Ponnala said they were happy to know that Telangana PCC will take up this Bill in the state of Telangana and plans to get a draft Bill ready in a couple of days. Ponnala also assured Owaisi that he will take the issues it to its logical end. Meanwhile, it was not known whether MIM has put conditions to support Congress. But Telangana Congress leaders denied MIM had put any conditions for extending support to Congress. |

HYDERABAD: A beleaguered Congress in Telangana is trying to fight off its blues trying to poach TRS candidates it expects to win and thereby scupper the regional party's plan to form its government in the new state. Congress leaders are talking to prospective TRS MLAs, luring them with ministerial berths if they pull off large-scale defections.
Telangana Congress president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and former PCC president D Srinivas were in talks with "disgruntled" TRS candidates. In fact, TPCC spokesman Sravan Dasoju confirmed this in the hope that it would prompt more TRS candidates to follow suit.
"Many TRS candidates are in touch with our leaders," said Dasoju, who jumped the TRS ship just before the elections to join the Congress.
Ponnala claimed at least 20 TRS candidates were in touch with him, but declined to name them. Off the record, Congress sources claimed they have so far approached M Sahodar Reddy (Parkal), Gurunath Reddy (Kodangal), P Mahender Reddy (Dornakal), Enugu Ravinder Reddy (Yellareddy) and Shashidhar Reddy (Kodad).
A grim TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao swung into action and reportedly assured the 15-odd candidates of cabinet berths if the party forms the government.
TRS sources said the party chief has called for a meeting of the state executive on Friday to tackle the looming crisis. "To some of them, KCR has offered cabinet berths and to the rest, chairmanship of state boards," said a source.
The Congress is believed to have told TRS candidates to act independently as a block — if they win — and support the Congress in forming the first government in Telangana. Interestingly, most prospective MLAs are from the Reddy community and were with the TDP before joining TRS.
"In principle, we don't encourage defections. However, if somebody is frustrated in his party and wants to join us, we can't say no," Ponnala told TOI.
Congress sources said wooing the disgruntled candidates in the TRS is part of their plan to form the maiden government in Telangana and also ensure TRS does not come to power.
"The 15-odd TRS candidates are either willing or being prevailed upon to function as a separate block. If all of them get elected, then the anti-defection law will not apply to them and they can align with the Congress," a Congress source said.
The Congress also firmed up the support of MIM in its efforts to derail the TRS's bid to form the government. Ponnala and senior leaders Danam Nagender and Mohammed Shabbir Ali met MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday, where the latter assured the Congress of his party's support, said sources.
With about a week left for election results to be declared, both the TRS and Congress are expected to intensify their bid for government formation as well as prevent the other from coming to power. |
