Gaali mama they say it was from Siva's own words that he told he will dance in the center point of earth which is near Thillai forests ( once chidambaram was called Thillai ).
Backdrop of the story is that once Sesha sai complaints that Vishnu who is laying on him has gained lot of weight and it is difficult for him to bear the new Vishnu and asks what happened for the gain of weight. Then Vishnu says, it is because he saw Siva doing cosmic dance and with that happiness he gained weight. Then the serpant asks Vishnu to let it go so that he can see it. Vishnu grants permission, Siva also acknowledges the serpants wish, but says, I will not dance now, but will dance only at the center point of Earth which is tillai forests which is chidambaram.. The temple was built later on..
Idi scientific gaa evado confirm chesinattunnadu kani I dont think there are publications for that which are widely available..

there was another saying that this temple was named as Chitambaram which is chit + ambalam = Hall of consciousness. Thats why this temple has 5 sabha's and they have their own significance.
The RajaSabha(i) is having 1000 pillars, which represents sahasradhara in Yoga and they say if someone meditates in this place, they get the highest result due to cosmic energy in the place as Siva and Parvati dance at this place.
Also there was a chakram in that temple people say it is so powerful that if you do meditation infront of that chakram, one can see Lord Shiva.
Ivanni experiences that some one should get, not sure who were those lucky people who experienced what was told.
Anyday, going to that temple is an immense pleasure..

Rao ji correct ...did not want to spoil the surprise for those who did not visit the temple yet.
ee rahasyam telusukunna vadu dhanyudu...Meeru anattu Chidabaram lo idol vundadu....He is pure consciousness....chala wait cheyinchi Tera teestaru...chooste idol vundadu...
That whole scenario is very meaningful...when one undergoes it....one realizes what he is searching for....
P.S Not about form or formless....ee temple lo ila showing one path towards the divine...need not be the same path for everybody...flexibility vundi.

I lived in that place for about an year..
pancha bhoota linga kshetralalo chidambaram is "Akasa" linga kshetram, As you said the meaning of chidambaram, that is the rahasyam of the temple. You see sky you feel something there, but there is nothing. But the representation is in the form of bilwa patra maala hanged and this will be curtained and only opened when arati is performed upon demand.
The temple architecture represents human body form. thats why it has so significance. Also the temple it has many representation of 4 vedas, 18 puranas, 64 arts, 5 steps to statue resembling na ma si va ya.. This temple is really a wonder and such a place with lot of cosmic energy.
Many say that this is not center of earth equator, but magnetic equator which not straight.. Ofcourse, this magnetic equator keeps changing and not sure it is any more.. The idol position in the temple is as told by whoever.

Avunu andi all 5 temples are supposed to be interlinked.
1.Sri Kalahasti vayu sthalam.......Garbha gudi is closed from 3 directions...also temple ki chala lopala vuntundi...but the hanging lamps within the sanctum sanctorum flicker like crazy.
2.Arunchalam...Fire temple....
3.Temples where the sun's rays fall directly on the deity on particular days ( Examples : Arasavailli temple, Kolhapur lo Laxmi devi temple...Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamilnadu )
5 Pancha bhoota temples matram linked with energy anedi shastram cheptundi....
One should go to each one of the temples if that particular element is distrubed.
