Kubang ji .. i am researching purely based on campus placements to NY, and i am told only big banks come to CA for recruitment, and yes that makes sense when i check previous placements. I did not mean NY has only SELL side firms ...  ..
@Ex - the decision is made, for my $ budget i am going to the CA college, the only point of contention is - placements. Ela unai, panikochevi unaya, what r the options.. and if there is a problem - i should prep before hand so i get the proper job..adi katha..
inta 80k$ fees petti manam 100k job ante.. clearly sounds bad for the cost of living .. its good for me to map all these perspectives..thanks all |

all the info i provided was based on my opinion. didn't mean to impact your decision. Do your research and decide.
One thing I can tell, this is definitely most happening place and would never feel like leaving once start living here |

sorry not a whole lot of knowledge on fin companies. One thing though, most of these fin comps are in SF city or in the vicinity. So, factor in to be bit more expensive and commuting hassle depending on where you plan to live.
btw, there is american century in mountain view.

got you ... makes much more sense. I am not rooting for IT companies, in the list for the placements i see - Blackrock,Moodys,SnP.. lots of boutique Invt firms like Echelon,Oaktree etc.. you happen to have some info on them too ?
Problem with Invst Mgmt is..they prefer recruiting double MS or Phd candidates.. vellu kooda overqualified ayyiundi they start as analysts which is makign it tough for others to compete.. |

In my opinion, Bay area works differently than rest of the world with respect to pay. usually the big companies pay in such a way, salary is never a criteria for the RIGHT candidate all rules will be broken assuming it's a big public company and likes of google/apple/facebook/linkedin etc, there are lots of them so you have choice
However, in general to give you ball park number
Sr SWE - $130k-145k with 10 to 15% bonus + 1200 to 2000 rsus at the time of joining with 4 year vesting period . If you negotiate sign on bonus (10-15k+) and relocation (have to stay 1-2 years otherwise give back prorated)
Sr Mgr - $180k / 20% bonus / $2500+ rsus / sign on bonus + relo
bear in mind negotiation is key - if you think they are zeroing on you, you have upper hand and push what you want
bay area jobs are fast paced. If you enjoy learning and deliver as per goals then intermittent hikes, intermittent bonus, intermittent additional rsus are pretty common.
if someone is laid back, going gets super tough

If you are
- DINK - double income no kids - luxurious
- married with kids single income - super stretch
- married with kids double income - best of both worlds
BTW, some the finance companies are schwab, visa, wellsfargo, paypal, apple and google, Dodge & Cox, chase etc

Do you happen to have rough idea on the sal levels for 9yrs Fintech + job in the Bay.. 100 seems to be low for sure. So what is the ideal $ ? |

But the main target is for HedgeFunds, InvMgmt ..I do have confidence on myself.. Indian mkt ayite full ga pindesanu so know the scams inside out. US side FTE situation teliyadu ..so tryign to scratch some info. Dont plan to go east side - Mkt mostly is concentrated in LDN,NY. Dont want to look for SELL side desk,front off job - akkada future ledu $ ki already mottam regulate chesi paresaru.. |

cost of living - everything will be expensive. basically, if you are coming for the first time, you will have sticker shock and pretty much everything - rent, insurance, schools, gas etc
- 2 bedroom apartment - $2800 to $3500
- private schools k-8 - $15k to $18k per kid per year
- private high school - competition is high, almost a joke like applying for college and fee is around 20k per year
- traffic notorious unless you live close to work, no subway
- real estate decent townhome $800k - 1.2mil
upside is
- there are more jobs than candidates available.
- apple spaceship campus
- google massive real estate acquisitions
- automotive IT is setting up shops here
- Good finance presence
- retail IT
- lot of startups
- weather is awesome
- Indian community |

The preliminary info i get -
1) extremely high compared to any other area in US.
2) i dont know the ground level $,but school stats suggest 120k,100k few jobs and then lots of them around 90-100k.
3) West is full of Investment Mgmt firms, whereas east ( Wall St. ) is full of SELL side firms, so adoka clear divide antunar.
I do aspire to settle on BUY side, so going to this college. Places under the scanner - CA,LA mostly.
