Direct heart realted test are definitely better in detecting heart risk kaani usually cheyyaru unless they suspect something is wrong...doc ni chaala saarlu adigaanu oka saari cheyyi emi poyindhi ani...vere docs chestaaremo kaani nenu cheyyanu antaadu naa doc. I think ultimate test is angiogram...direct scan of the heart arteries and the extent of fat build up/ blockage we have in arteries...adhi cheste mottham clear cut anukunta. LDL, HDL etc are only indicators of heart risk...not definitve. Like people with high LDL will have 3x more risk of heart attack etc.

Medical guidelines usually cost benefit analysis ni batti untayi...lets say if there is a 1% chance of detecting a heart problem in a low risk patient and it cost 5K to do it. Then, cost for 100 patients will be 500K. Medical guidelines will say 500k is not worth preventing 1 heart attack. Nenu i dont care about the cost, Indians are at a higher so i just want to rule it out completely ani kooda cheppa...ayina sare not with me ani cheppadu. Athani point is if I do a preliminary test, some thing might come up as a false positive, that will be lot more testing and finally it may turn out to be negative ani cheppadu. Veeti meedha more research cheddamani aapesa....leka pothe edhoka doctor tho testing chepinche vaadini.

Idhi my interpretation:

So, what is definitely clear and proven is...High LDL is bad for the heart and other health.

What is not clear is...if high HDL directly contributes to better heart. Most likely hypothesis at this point is usually high HDL is found in people with low LDL...so people might be confusing correlation with causation. So, if you artifically inflate HDL count without a corresponding decrease in LDL...it may not reduce heart risk.

Epidemiological studies have shown that elevated levels of LDL are strongly associated with an increased risk of heart attack, and drugs that lower LDL have been shown definitively to reduce that risk. Similar epidemiological studies have shown that above-normal levels of HDL are associated with a decreased risk of heart attack. They first looked at subjects with a mutant form of a gene for a protein called endothelial lipase; people with the variant have HDL levels that are about 10% above normal, a level that -- according to conventional wisdom -- should reduce the risk of heart attack by about 13%. The team reported in the journal Lancet, however, that individuals with the variant had the same risk of heart attack as people without it.

They then looked at a suite of 14 genes, each of which is thought to increase levels of HDL. Again, those with any of the genes had no reduced level of risk. Significantly, when the team performed a similar analysis of genes that increase levels of LDL, they found an increased risk of heart attacks.

Based on the studies, the authors concluded that "Interventions (lifestyle or pharmacological) that raise plasma HDL levels cannot be assumed ipso facto to lead to a corresponding benefit with respect to risk of myocardial infarction [heart attack]."

Researchers speculate that the epidemiological link between higher HDL and lower heart attack risk may be caused by some other, as-yet-unknown factor that both lowers heart attack risk and increases HDL levels.

Best way is exercise...nenu peddaga cheyyanu.

I eat lot of nuts...I think that definitely helped. Naaku nuts ante oka laanti addiction. Fish oil tablets and fish also helps a lot antaaru. Few years back...fish oil tablets esukune vaadini naaku peddaga pani cheyyaledhu...may be i was not consistent. Ila food tho HDL count perigina...it might not be beneficial to heart ani edho research undhi...i need to dig more and figure it out. But, best way is exercise.

Few years back once in a while gym ki ellevaadini..ippudu no more gym. If you are like me and don't like to go to gym...some practical things that seem to be working for me..
1) I chase my kids around the house to get exercise. Kids love it and its a fun activity.
2) Climb anywhere between 2 to 10 floors in my office. Climbing up is good and i take the elevator down. Water and restroom ki kooda i purposefully go to a different floor.

My HDL used to be very low...always below 30...lowest was some 23...monna first time 40 ki vacchindhi. But, LDL and total increased as well. I think they go together to some extent.

if u do that, Honey looses all its good qualities n is equal to sugar water...

Never Ever heat Honey or buy any Pasteurised Honey at all..

just buy...unpasteurised honey from your local farm or near by place...

just mix lemon in hot water n drink early in the morning

u can take honey ocassionally in a day...eat it raw...or sprinkle on salads...yougurt etc...
